I finally got it! SCA was screwing me up more than I realized. It was not just jerking around my vector, but it inhibited throttle control, too. I stopped using it and just had six perfect landings in a row. Mission accomplished.
4 pips to shields, plasma 'bullets' are slow so you can circle strafe and shoot them with thr turret (or just run them over), if your shield ever gets below 20% you can run away until it recharges.Won't they just blow me away with their plasma shotguns? They damn near took down my sidewinder. I can't imagine the SRV stands a chance.
The jump-scan thing was actually added as a means to "iron out the kinks". In the beginning, jumping away on a scan effectively nullified it. Clearly the devs were not happy with the guards being so benevolent, so they made them ultra-aggressive instead.Still a great game, but I really hope they iron out the kinks on this.

It really is a great game. It just has a few frustrating quirks. And, the SCA thing is a definitely a player skill issue. I just need to get on top of it.
