Newcomer / Intro More trading issues - Pls explain import and export

So I'm just tried again. I am at Dayuan Platform in the Navajour system. It is the only station. It says that Synthetic Fabrics is exported to Pices system, nearby. So, I buy 8 lots of Synthetic Fabrics.
I then travel to the Pices system, dock at Knipling Port - and guess what. I will make a loss on the sale.

I then look at the imports for both stations and Synthetic Fabrics is not on the list.
It even says "Imported from Navajour" in the Commodity list!

So.... what is going on here. It says it is exported from A to B, but when I travel to B, I make a loss.

Game is becoming unplayable. I'm not after an easy ride here, but I would expect the information given to at least help in some way and not give totally misleading information.

I used to get the same. Im a noob too. I have started using Slopeys trade tool and it works well. You will find it on here. I am making a small but nice profit of 3k credits one way and 1.5k back. So my money is building. Slowly. But I don't mind as I am still getting to grips with the game. I think I understand now that I need a hauler to make cash, so I am saving for one as the SW can only hold 4.0T. Try slopes tool. Its very easy. I run it in background and just Alt-Tab to it when docked.

I recommend avoiding any trading tools.

What the stations buy and sell are quite neatly determined by their economic type. If you buy under the galactic average, you can make a profit from it, somewhere. If the original target station will not buy at a profit, jump elsewhere.

Ore to a refinery, food to industrial plants, refined metals to industrial and high tech stations, superconductors to high tech...

I've installed Slopey's BDC tool, but I wanted to contribute too, so I've installed EliteOCR too. These are both great tools, but I cant believe that its 2014 and the steps to make a game playable involve taking screenshots and then using two 3rd party tools to make trading actually possible. And it is a little fiddly to use, but I do appreciate the hard work that has gone into it.

I'd still like to understand the trade routes and imports / exports though. What is the point of having them if they are completely wrong (as they seem to be in my case)

Thanks for the tips, but spending an hour flying from one station to another looking for a profit is not really fun. Especially when all the information you gained from docking is lost as soon as you take off unless you use a 3rd party tool or write everything down on a piece of paper when playing.

It doesn't answer my question about imports and exports though - and what is the point of this information, when clearly it is giving me false information and therefore making me a loss.

I bought under the Galactic Average, and I shipped it to a system which said it was importing it, but then none of the stations in that system actually say it is being imported, even though it clearly states that in the commodity view.

I play whilst mildly chilled via the use of 'herbal' s (cough ;) ) hence I 'forget' a lot. His tool helps me remember....:) I guess Adept is correct but I am still green and hadn't figured out the gist yet. I'll use slopes until i do.

Not judging you any. I just find doing it by the seat of my pants more fun. I'm in no great hurry to make money.

And if the game actually worked and gave proper information, I wouldn't need the 3rd party tools. Please read my original post. The information given by the game is wrong and is losing me money. Forget the 'get rich quick' posts - this is not one of them, I am actually trying to work out what the information in the game means, because at the moment, it is false and leading me to losing money.

No worries. I never thought that for a minute. I'm kinda doing that myself whilst I move further and further away from my initial spawn location. Once i get used to the trading i'll do the same. I'm in no hurry either. Its the chilled atmos i love about this game. Dont think Ive even fired my guns yet. :)
