How far south have any of you fellow explorers been? I'm gonne try and go almost 17,000 ly south of Sol but I just want to know if anybody has gotten beyond 17 kly at all.

What? I didn't know 17kLY is possible... Which system is that?
I think Allitnil holds the record but I can't remember the system name. Maybe he'll mention it.
I've bookmarked some systems 16,900 ly south so I'm thinking there might be systems I mislooked that are 17 kly south or more.

Yeah, it does, which is why it's a great place to explore. In my opinion, at least. I got to Shackleton's star before we had any FSD boosts, and discovered Borchgrevink Point once we had those. After Engineers, Allitnil went farther out, and while technically there are some scattered stars beyond the southernmost star (not Notus, the Southern meridian though), it looks like they are beyond any jump range we're ever likely to get.
It's a good challenge to survey these parts, because you need to be well-prepared, and there aren't nearly as many routes already planned out and visible as there are at the far North. Although with a 50+ ly jump range, you can travel through the region to the very edge without much planning.

Seems Allitnil went to the same star I was planning to go, oh well at least that was a prejumponium record so MAYBE I might get further but I've yet to spot a star even more to the south.
Either way that zone is very uncharted so I might get some cool first claims.

That's why I like flying in this places, the low star density can make the trip daunting because in all honesty, exploring near the core isn't dangerous, worst thing that can happen is when you get stuck in neutron star plumes.
