Hardware & Technical mouse control???

hi guys

Just signed up for the Forum having been looking at the game for several months. Before I Pay up for the game I just want to confirm that there will be a mouse control option For it.

I am physically disabled and cannot use a joystick or keyboard. I would therefore use a mouse along with voice recognition control.

for the last 10 years have been playing Eve online and this game looks infinitely better even if it is not out yet!

Many thanks

Welcome Excalibur to the forums

i belive that Mouse, keyboard, joystick and game controller will all be options to use within ELITE, so take your pick and make a pledge.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to play with keyboard control, but I would suggest that you get involved and put forward ideas that can help you (and potentially others). Frontier staff are very open and receptive to changes that can improve the game and making it accessible to all.

Hi Excalibur

I've heard of people using the kinect for a replacement for some keyboard commands on the PC. I'm not sure whether it would be suitable, as it depends on your range of movement.

This would be separate from the game so you could use it for other tasks too.

Personally, I will be treating it like any other flight sim.

Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Pro Rudders, TrackIR 5.. Unless of course I can get one of those Dev Ocular units...

I think if you can manage to play EVE then you should be good with Elite. Although you may need to make some voice control macros I would have thought.... I don't know for sure how the interface will work but depending on what mouse you own and how many buttons it has I'm sure you can map the most essential controls to the buttons.

Remember that EvE and E: D are totally different.

For a start, E: D is twitch - you'll actually need to "fly" the ship. It's not a point and click control effort like EvE is.

If you can't use a keyboard, you might have a few issues with mapping all the various controls you'd need, but I'd imagine you'd be able do most of it on a 4-6 button mouse with a scroll wheel.

You'll likely be limited to pitch/yaw on the mouse movement, then possibly be able to map the scroll wheel to thrust (depends if it's a set value or an axis, and if you can map the scroll wheel as an axis), then LB/RB for primary/secondary weapons.

But you'd still need one/two buttons for targetting. Unless that's on the scroll wheel, but then you'd need throttle inc/dec buttons instead.

Get a mouse with as many buttons as possible! Voice macroing will help however.

Just remember that it's twitch though, so it'll require more co-ordination than EvE's "flight" (not that it is) model.

If you can fly any flight sim game with Missiles and guns. I don't see a reason you should not be able to fly on Elite. 95% of the games now you can edit your controls.

Now the voice control. That one I am unsure of.
