Hi!

I'd like to suggest having a new info on your hud indicating your actual direction and speed of movent relative to your ships orientation. How this should look and weather you want to show this only when Flight assist (FA) is off or not is open for dicussion.

This would be a huge help especially when tring to bring your ship to a full stop for mining, landing, cargoscooping etc. without FA on. In older versions it looks like the spacedust was always a good indicator but as soon as you go slower, the dust gets really faint and so rare you have a hard time using that as an indicator.

My suggestions would be some sort of 3-axis view changing color just like the speed indicator. You could also have a holorgram "dart" projected on the canopy but i think that would obscure the view too much.

Thanks for your opinions.

I would suggest two possible ways to implement this inertia indicator:
- The indicator is shown in the HUD, i.e. as a circle with a dot in the center for the movement direction and a circle with a cross for the opposite direction (depicting tip and tail of an vector arrow).
- Either a second compass or a second marker in the compass. The latter would have the advantage to show if you are moving towards your navigation target.

A Ray line attached to the center of the ship model on the right hand side was what I had in mind.

Immediately what I thought of as well, its the most realistic version of this.
Although I really would Like to see a possible PFD type HUD with a Velocity vector instead, but that's just me lol. I'm just not a fan of the current HUD setup, would be nice to have an option for a more realistic one where the important info is all center view.

This is also what I immediately envisioned would be the cleanest implementation of the suggested feature.
Would be neat if you could see it on your target's ship as well!

Having a targets velocity shown would be interesting. It would actually make ship-to-ship combat quite different. I know star citizen has a leading indicator, but if this was implemented into ED it couldn't be an option as it would give players with it enabled an advantage in combat with current combat tactics within ED. Everyone would have to get it, which is fine, because then people would change how they act in combat which would in turn balance it out.

I honestly don't really think that knowing your target's velocity is going to cause that target to act very differently. Can you give an example?

* I meant other players as targets sorry 3: *
Ai is pretty good, but from my experience actual players tend to get padlocked on targets and kinda sit and drift slowly while shooting. Which seems like an easy target but if you have fixed weapons and are moving yourself, its difficult to stay on target and lead properly. Adding a target movement vector or line (extremely similar to a leading indicator) would make it much easier to do this. I know it doesn't seem like much, but aiming at a already computed area instead of doing it yourself would make PVP combat easier. Therefore people would start flying more like Ai, flying faster and more evasively, making it more difficult to aim at them since everyone now has this new advantage. People would change how they fly to compensate for the buffs it gives.
I'm not against it, just making an observation. If a target movement indicator was added, it can't be an option and has to be a universal addition since it adds an advantage if only certain people turn it on.

Didn't you just describe the target leading indicator that's already in game?

Haha XD you might be right, I haven't played dedicated combat in a while. I thought it was only for gimbaled weapons that the target leading indicator was shown. (which is what I use primarily on my Lakon currently)
