MP3 player in the game

Simple solution, earbud phones from iPod inside big headphones playing game sounds. Works for me :)

That doesn't make my ship override my music list with an emergency klaxon, nor does it disable it completely when my canopy gets blown out. Those kinds of cool can only happen if the audio is routed through the game itself.

Back in beta I thought this would be a nice idea, but as time has gone on I just don't see the point. Sure, if the game featured custom content (a-la GTA's radio stations) then yes. As it is if I want to listen to alt-audio I either set a player going in the background or play music/podcasts on my phone while playing the game. Basically IMO there are better ways of doing what you are after without requiring a dedicated 'in game' music player.

Fubar2000 is a great program.

And and you flac snobs.... Play a flac file, then play the same song encoded to MP3 320kbps and tell me you can hear a difference. If you can, you're lying. You can even go down to 192 and not tell a difference.

or your suffering a placebo effect.

Flac is only good for wasting hard drive space.

I have recently been comparing and considering making the move to flac .. then I heard them and realised the same as you. I only really needed to upgrade my old mp3s I made a decade or two ago to 320kbps.

Perhaps if you have a mega sound system that can really push out the extra detail out of the sound then its worth the extra space/effort to convert everything, but on my Audioengine A5+ with DAC I hear no difference at all .. and I mean no difference!

But anyways ... getting off topic .. Music player would be cool :)

yeah 320mp3 is a great format.

As for what I said earlier in the thread, I apologize if I came across like an ass or anti-snob. The thing is, the vast majority of people can't tell the difference between a flac and an MP3, some not even noticing if the bitrate drops to 128kbps where you really begin to hear the aliasing "water shimmering" effect in the higher frequencies. That doesn't mean that there aren't people that can tell the difference between a high bitrate MP3 and a lossless compressed format like flac or something else, but it is pretty rare from my understanding. I personally think 192kbps sounds no different than a CD, but I typically use 320kbps cuz it makes me feel better I guess. If people wanna use flac because they feel better, or actually can hear the difference(in which case, I envy you :D ) then it isn't my place to bother them about it.
