Multi-crew and multiple accounts

If I've understood correctly... You can't use NPCs as crew. My first thought after realizing that was "So, PvPers are going to buy multiple accounts to get more pips".
The game can be bought for pretty low price on sales and 2 pips is A LOT.
So, question to people with multiple accounts: Is it possible to run 2 clients at once?

In before the lock!

Hmm, my PC certainly can't handle two EDs running at once, but I do have a god awful laptop that can just run ED at <20fps.
So it's possible.

Although, I won't. I don't want a second account, I did that in Eve Online for mining, and it was stupid. Lol

Also play on a laptop, in Open. And (my two cents) if people want to buy an extra account and gain some pips, no matter if it gives an advantage or not, I don't personally care. Good luck to them. An Anaconda or a high engineered Cobra is still much bigger than my <insert ship here>.

I have multiple accounts and am able to run 2 EDs on my main computer and another on my spare. I don't see myself doing the extra pip thing though. With a macro keyboard, my pips are already easily handled. (I used to use Voice Attack, but it has a bit of lag).

It doesn't matter to me in PvE either, but I really don't like the idea of enemy player winning 1v1 because he's got more money than me.

Perhaps in the case of the gunner pips.

It should be (or might already be), you only receive +1 pip if :

- The ship has at least one turret, after all gunner can't do nowt if no turrets, and it would literally a free pip for nothing
- Turrets stay under manual control

Although yes, the above would still be "exploitable" by just adding a single small turret on a useless hardpoint, and PvPers being PvPers, could still risk becoming a meta.

Lol with this though, you know this is one of those things no PvPer will talk about, because they will just have a spare account and assume no-one else will do this, don't want to "spread the word" as it were. ;)

Like the premium ammo bug where PvPers weren't reporting it because they felt it gave them a "hidden" advantage so not in their interest to discuss/report it.

Or maybe I am just a cynic.

I'm sure its possible, even if it requires some trickery such as virtual OS. ED will run on low end computers too, so its gonna happen. Two extra pips is certainly an advantage

I know what you mean, and understand it because yes, it's the pay to win idea. However, if you play a lot of hours, you're in a Corvette and I'm in Sidewinder, I'm still done for hardpoints (You use a hotas? I use mouse and keyboard). An extra pip is pretty marginal in the grand scheme I think, it's definitely not like putting Corvettes for sale in the store or anything, not even close. A bit of a meta thing, Frontier gain money to develop with, I'd certainly not lose any sleep over letting it ride myself. Plus how many people actually own a supercomputer.

Getting a crew mate seems easier, cheaper and better. You won't be able to tell if an account is just logged in or being controlled. It'll look like a multicrew ship to you all the same (although not used to full potential).

At present, the ED Launcher will only let you run one per machine so without some Technomancy to bypass that you would need two machines to run two accounts, same as if there were two players.

You might want a second account for commodity storage some stupid design decisions are still holding us from ("you'll hack the bgs" - what a lame excuse). I nearly went and bought one, but seeing what a disappointment the subsequent updates are I decided against it.

And, more accounts means more sales for FDev, yay :)

I run 2 instances of ED on 1 computer often enough. Sometimes, I'll have one CMDR going one direction and the other going somewhere else. I just time the frameshifts so I can fly one away from the star and align him to the next destination before the other one drops. There's a little loss in frame rates, but it's not severe in supercruise.

Are you really really sure?

From what I've heard you get 1 pip for each additional (human) Crew you let onto your ship (for a total of 2).
Crew positions are Gunner (only once and only if turrets are available) and Fighter (up to twice possible depending on fighter bays).
So...

When you have a Two-Fighter-Bay installed, you could assign two (human) Crew member to the Fighters and getting both Pips without sacrifiing Weapon Power!

Actually getting 2 or even 3 instances of elite running on a single computer shouldn't be a problem...
You could set them to the lowest settings, set framerate limit, set resolution to lowest possible and maybe even make one of them use integrated GPU. It's not "sidewinder beats covette" advantage, but it's still an advantage.

Not only can players run two different installations from the same computer you can just use a separate laptop running a separate installation of Elite if you want to keep the two CMDRs accounts completely separate. It really isn't hard to meet min-spec requirements to run Elite at a min-spec installation on a second system. Getting another power pip for $30 USD is quite simply a no-brainer for most players. Compared to the overpriced DLC getting an actual in-game benefit for $30 USD is absolutely massive. FD has been selling ship paint packs for $7 USD, ship kits (with random parts that don't even fit properly) for $12 USD and is even selling us a SINGLE for $1.75 USD. Not only are those very overpriced there is NO way to get ship paint customizations in-game without spending money on those overpriced paint purchases. I've already purchased $55 of ship paints so far just to get black paint to try out some stealth builds on my ships and that is ONLY because there was literally no other option for me to paint my ships black otherwise. That was not good value for my money at all and the idea of getting another power pip for my FDL for $30 sounds like a good deal to me.

The ONLY thing that keeps me from getting a second account for multicrew at this point is that I fully expect that FD will nerf the extra power pips into the ground a few months after 2.3 as it will absolutely destroy any sense of game balance. In fact it's quite amusing that FD just dramatically nerfed the dps from Engineering weapon mods, is going to be nerfing shield booster stacking next and yet doesn't think an extra 1-2 magic power pips that can be straight-up purchased by using a second account isn't going to destroy game balance. Fortunately I have a good sense of where this is going because I've seen them go through enough OP buff/nerf cycles since Horizons launched that I don't actually expect we'll be keeping all of these massive benefits they're promising for multicrew.

At one time they were blocking that at the Launcher level ....maybe they removed the block and I never noticed. I run two commanders off the same machine but not at the same time. Let me try.

Well This is what I get ....(without using any Technomancy)

Log out of the launcher after getting ED to run in 64 bit mode. Log in with the other cmdr and start 32 bit mode.

If you want two 64 bits going at the same time, copy the installation to a different folder and point a launcher shortcut to the copy.

If Frontier were smart they would wait until enough people bought multiple accounts before they patch this feature (extra pips) out. :p

Imagine the salt... *orders popcorn*...

;) Never thought of a second 32 bit...as for copying to a second DIR, like I said a little technomancy. It surprises how many people are frightened to death of touching the install DIR.
