Multi-crew (or the lack of it)

I've managed once to find an available ship looking to do multi-crew. Is it just me? I wanted to do multi-crew with the current bounty hunting community goal. There seems to be a surprising lack of human players in the system so it's unsurprising I can't find a multi-crew slot. So I tried other multi-crew options from general bounty hunting, xeno hunting etc. Nothing. Has this just fallen by the wayside now? I feel like it never really got off the ground to begin with.....

People aren't very keen to open cockpit to complete strangers.

I can consistently find MC sessions, but I usually have to wait a bit for it. Wait for plus signs to appear beside the activities, that tells you there are free seats. If the plus signs never appear I suppose there could be something wrong with your connection or you're just online at low activity hours.

I don't think bounties claimed in multi-crew count towards community goals though.

Last time I tried MC it consistently crashed my game after a few jumps. I dropped MC as the half baked hot potato that it is and can't be bothered to return to check. I know FDs mindset; if you use it, we'll fix it... Doesn't work for me. ;)

It's not a bad idea, but I thought they were supposed to be listening to the community? It appears no-one is interested in it. If they tied it in with the hirable NPC crew it could be a decent addition.

It was released as a minimum viable product riddled with griefing. They then pretty much said "it will get more development based on how much people use it".

Destined to rot like CQC.

I've had quite a bit of fun in multicrew. I think with Thargoids and everything, everybody just forgot it exists.

I had a random MC session yesterday. Ended in death, but was lots of fun for a while. My NPC died though, raise a glass to Michael Ramsey, killed just a few % from Elite, poor fella, not at all related to my negligence as a captain in bringing him along on a MC session

Multicrew — love it when playing with friends. We also play together in other games that have multicrew (tank gameplay, aircraft gameplay etc.)

But never, ever, EVER with random strangers, period.

I really wish Multicrew had been NPC crewmembers instead of a multiplayer thing. I've a strong feeling that a lot of people would be using the feature if it had been.

And then later on they could have added the multiplayer part of it, but instead of telepresence the players would simply "fill in" for the NPC crews.

They just got multi crew horribly wrong.
It's implemented as quick drop-in drop out pew-pew with strangers, which is something that I don't think many people want at all.
Long-term gameplay with established friends, which would be interesting, is not at all what it's aimed at.

They did a pretty good job of implementing completely the wrong thing.

this.

even though, "community goal" is one of the search factors for multicrew,
even though, every description of communitygoals contains this phrase:
Please note that if you have any crew members, a proportion of your combat bonds will be automatically assigned to them. These combat bonds will not count towards your personal contribution total, and your crew will recieve the reward for these combat bonds when they are handed in. The proportion of combat bonds assigned to your crew will depend on their rank

as crew, none of your income will count towards any community goal, even if you have signed up

Well, if Multicrew wasn't penalized to hell and back and actually gave a benefit to use... people might use it.

As it stands now, you only get a fraction of combat rewards, nothing for related missions and no influence or credit is given to outside efforts.

Its like your not even there honestly, especially since the only real selling points are basically Fighters or the abyssal Gunner position that can't hit worth a damn most of the time.

Pretty much all there is to it. I use multi crew on most sessions, same deal with most of my friends that fly.

Not having randoms onboard my ship, what's the point when you can have your friends onboard? I'd at least have to wing up with someone and have a chat before I let them onboard. Would never leave the ship open for anyone.

I know the community is a bit salty over the lack of npc crew, i'd like it too, but please stop talking rubbish about it being a waste of dev time, myself and many others waited patiently to have our friends and family ride along during game sessions. Multi crew couldn't have come fast enough for myself and my gaming buddies.

Multi crew was a definitely a nice concept. The problem is, you can't really add a whole lot of gameplay to it so no one uses it.

I enjoy multi crew with friends so the only things i wish they'd do with it is fix the connection bugs and have complete control over the permissions the crew has, i just want the gunner to shoot and scan ships i want to have control over the heatsinks, SCBs, chaff and torpedos/missiles

For me the worst part of the MC is the fact that you can not wing while MCing. So i can not have a friend with me and then have an MC in my ship. Which i think is a bit annoying. They could have MC count toward the Wing but instead having any kind of MC means you can have no wing. + honestly until they have something like cap ships where you NEED mc (not sure if they have anything like this planned in the future) i dont think MC will be a thing.

I always wanted the ability to wing up and multicrew. They should make it so if you want to wing up while in a crew, your bonus PIP is removed until you leave the wing.

But my biggest complaint are the bugs. I always have connection issues as soon as we try to make a full crew. It always bugs out eventually...

Maybe if there was actually something to do in multicrew other then fighters and turrets. But once again they put in a feature that could have been amazing and ignored everyone who doesn't want combat.

Make SRV multicrew a thing, tie it to the NPC crew system, and give us something to do.
