Multi monitor setup v Oculus Rift

I'm far too lazy to read all the posts in here but I just wanted to say that the Oculus Rift dk2 with a HOTAS is an incredible experience that is totally different than playing it on a monitor. I can't go back to playing it on a monitor.
I would NOT recommend buying a DK2 however, just wait for the retail version. It will be substantially better, cost around $350 and should be out around the middle of 2015.
VR is such a cool experience, definitely not a gimmick like 3d tv's.

*edit*- I forgot to mention, it also requires a beast of a rig to run it right. Don't even think about going for VR unless you have a serious PC.

I have three monitors (two 24" one 30" in the centre), I had three 24" monitors before, and I have a Rift DK2. I play E:D on my centre 30" and use the flanking 24" monitors for web/chat/etc. The Rift DK2 is nice for "playing" but is an impediment in combat (due to low res). I play A LOT of flight sims and this is the setup I generally prefer. Triple head is slightly nicer than single head without TrackIR, but with TrackIR single head is so much better than three monitors because the side monitors are more useful for viewing other relevant info.

I have a two monitor setup on my PC, each monitor is a fairly large 1080P screen. I use the two screens for my general PC work, but never for games as the center of focus would be between each screen. Not very useful :D
So was thinking of getting a third screen. This would then also mean getting a second graphics card, a good one is not cheap, and there possibly may not be a spare slot for the card in my PC anyway.

Then I thought of the Oculus Rift. Not sure how much it will retail for but could possibly be a cheaper option and more fun.

For the people that have played with both setups, what do you think is best? I am worried about the resolution of the Oculus. I'm guessing that the best it will achieve is 1080 pixels vertically and 960 pixels horizontally (as it has to split the image in two, one for each eye). Also a bit concerned with the fatigue factor. I can't stand watching 3D TV, it's just like sandpaper to the eyeballs. If I have issues with 3D TV will I have the same issue with VR headsets?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Would be very interested in your opinion.

Cheers
Tim

wait for the retail/consumer version, dk2 still has quite a low resolution. in the meantime if a triple monitor setup is out of your price range how about looking at a ultra widescreen (2560x1080)?
