Multicrew: My friend gets what, exactly?

I only really play with the same two guys on a regular basis, and even then one of them is only online at the weekend. The other guy who's online more often has just wandered off into parts unknown to do some exploration and, given the distance he's already gone, probably won't be around to bring his ship to wherever the other two of us are.

So, last night, my friend out exploring and I did some multicrew after he parked on a planet. We ended up doing some surface missions to destroy power grids and I found that I was able to invite him to wing missions to do this, but when he left the crew, he didn't seem to get any reward claims to hand in whenever he got back. So to test, I invited him back to the crew again after getting a larger ship, grabbed a full load of cargo and sold it, taking note of the sale profit.

Selling 400 tons of stuff, I earned 1,384,000 credits, for a total profit of 285,600. My total income was a bit less than that since I have an NPC pilot who takes 6%, a figure that will rise once she hits Elite. Pilot's wage aside, my friend only earned about 14k total. Is his income a small percent of mine like the NPC? He's Competent, I'm Expert and the NPC is Expert.

We're planning to try and test incomes some more, but it seems like the reward isn't really worth the effort. Well, it is, but only if you own the ship.

The rewards earned by your multicrew partner are related to your relative ranks. The higher the difference the less they earn and they only get a % to start with too. I find bounty hunting at a CNB and letting them use an SLF the best fun. I use a class 6 SLF hanger on my ships to give them the option of a second fighter immediately available when they lose one. If they're low rank then gimballed lasers tend to give them best time on target, but I find randoms like a choice between gimballed and fixed. The Guardian Javelin with shard cannon is a good SLF, as the weapon has an area of effect , the downsides being it's relatively weak armour and it needs rearming occasionaly.

For me multicrew is not about the rewards so much as the fun of flying an SLF or hosting. When hosting newbs they seem to appreciate the fun without the risk and the rewards for them can be appreciable too.

I don't know if this is still valid but it's worth a look as a guide

Checking the tables, my friend should be getting 70% of payouts, is that only from bounties? I remember my friends getting a decent sum after I handed in a large amount of bounties at the station contacts.

I get it's for fun, but it doesn't seem as fair as it could be. Unlike the NPC crew, another CMDR does more than just shoot stuff.

What I'd really like is for the option to have, even just for the session, a whole ship operated by a crew who split all profits semi-equally. I'd happily settle for half or a third of my income if I was flying with friends. Maybe with Odyssey, but who knows.

Unfortunately Multi-Crew has languished somewhat and never really been revisited. It's a bit of a placeholder. 'Sandro' once made a comment along the lines of "if it gets used we'll make improvements". I'd like the ability to use SRV in 'multicrew missions' providing air support from my ship (Odyssee may have this covered who knows), why can't I let trusted commanders take the mothership helm ?. How about a MC operated mining SLF's ?. There's a lot that could be done to improve it.

In essence: The plebs get meagre peas while the master race gets the steaks. ED's philosophy is that player time isn't equally worth it. You join up a lobby as starter with low rank and you basically earn the long-time player millions while you get mere pennies. It's basically digital slave labour.

Yeah, there's a reason why I made sure to take the generator missions. With the fighter at least you can complete them. I'm fairly certain that you NEED the SRV for the 'Interact with the Datalink' missions.

On the plus side, it took about 30 seconds on some of the generator missions. Drop in with the Keelback, my friend launches, I turn around while he takes out the generator, he docks and then I get us into supercruise or jump back to the system we got the mission from if it's visible from where we are on the planet.

It's probably so you don't just crew with your friend on his new account, run a few high paying missions for the factions you have Allied status with and then send him on his way a good few million richer.

Or just take him mining. My friend and I might try that just to see what the experience is like.

Probably, the clou is to make it attractive for everyone.

Just FYI, I'm able to do any datalink mission without any SRV, but you need a ship with the cockpit in front in order to be able to scan it point blank. Can't do it with a corvette for example !

I've done this for ones where you just scan one beacon, but does it work for the ones where you have to scan 3 or four on a timer to get the last one active to read the information you are after ?

I haven't found any on a timer yet, but I just did a strategic data hack and I was able to scan everything from the seat of my krait, including the one wich disabled the turrets
