Multiplayer (co-op) missions only?

Anyone aware if there will be any gameplay (missions?) that will be co-op only? ie: So you can only achieve something (eg: an escort mission) if X of you do it together?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I think that there shouldn't be missions that are geared only for groups. Rather, solo missions should scale up depending on how many friends you're flying with. I don't like it when there's content I can't access in MMOs just because I have limited time to devote to guilds. Even games that try to foster on the fly grouping tend to fail (looking at SWtOR). Then you're getting like 3/4 of the game you've paid for instead of all of it just because you're a friendless scmuck. :p

Yeh I can see that... Just as long as you can carry out some mission at least as a group of friends, that would be cool! eg: An escort mission!

Yes but if I play solo I want to have these missions replace real player with NPC. ;)

I think what will happen with regards to this is the injected event system will give you scope to play in a co-op type environment

For example if a planet has a famine. you and your 'friends' can easily participate in the same relief missions or stop the supplies coming through

just a basic example but can easily be applied to most of the idea's they have for events.

as for missions if your willing to 'share' the booty so to speak who's to stop you teaming up.......

Just to be clear. You will be able to play with friends doing escort missions and the like...

If you put your friends in your friendslist/alliance/group they will also be prioritized by the system when it comes to putting all of you in the same instance. This coupled with the central server that keeps track on all the larger scale events in the galaxy (politics/wars/conflicts/news/economics...) will most likely make it "feel" like a MMO while it actually isn't from a purely technical standpoint.

If you want more info about how groups and the galaxy are handled you should read these threads in the DDF archive:

hmmm.... play online line in the same space as a load of other people that you can, if you choose, interact with. nothing at all like an mmo then.

I think when people say it's not a MMO, they mean to say while it's multiplayer ( Or Flexiplayer as someone called it) it's not massively multiplayer, comparable to say EVE or WoW.

I tend to agree ;) but I'd imagine the game is going to be a lot of fun doing missions with friends.

Yeah, of course. But, sincerely, if the only way to have fun with the game is to play in a group, IMHO the game will have failed.

Yeah I do agree entirely. I like playing with friends or other people when it suits me. The moment it becomes a requirement or necessity is when it starts to become a chore.

Yes that's what I mean, a multiplayer online game :)

Agree with you. We can choose to play in solo or multiplayer without loosing any mission or something else.

When I dock and check the bulletin board, talk to NPCs, or however I acquire a mission in the game, I would expect there to be missions I couldn't do for various reasons. Not enough cargo space, ship too slow, not well armed enough, and no doubt things like reputation with the wrong faction.

Adding 'mission requires a certain number of players' to that list needn't mean that there are any less suitable missions for a single player to have a go at. Just increase the total missions slightly, rather than spreading the different mission types more thinly.

Seeing missions that I can't do in my current situation but that look tempting would encourage me to try other ships, other equipment and other 'roles'. Likewise a wouldn't mind trying to put together a small team of friends to have a go at multiplayer missions for a while. It would just be one of the many career paths you could choose to switch between.

And you'd see these multiplayer missions being multi-ship based? eg: A freighter needs three ships to protect it? So you and two of your friends take up the challenge?
