Multiple account easy log in.

Having recently have a few log in problems between Steam and the ED launcher and trying to remember different logon names email addresses and passwords I am left looking for an easier solution. YES I record these items in a file and on bits of paper.

However If I may be so bold as to suggest a means by which The community can graphically access multiple accounts.
There could be a selection of commander/account tabs before/after the select game type tab in the Elite Dangerous launcher with a number of slots that are capable of remembering varied game account details IE: email address, account/commander names and the applied password for that account. All neatly displayed as a selectable list of commanders names in the same area as the Horizons/elite dangerous/arena selection.

I feel this would be a great quality of life option for players and an option that is in many other games.

PS having played ELITE from the time of the wireframed snake ships and thargoids I have nothing but respect and admiration for the Dev team at frontier and this just a suggestion not a criticism.

Thanks FDEV and stay safe 07.

I use a password manager called Bitwarden. I highly recommend it. I switch between accounts through the launcher and just copy and paste from Bitwarden, takes just a few seconds. But I do agree that Fdev could do something to streamline the account switching process. Also, all that aside - we are far overdue for a second commander slot.

I play both a Steam and an Epic account. But i'm not asked to enter any passwords. The trick is to close the launcher after you start the game.

So, I have on the screen the shortcuts for ED launcher from both the Epic and the Steam clients (create shortcut from the clients)
So i open the ED launcher from Steam, i start the game, then i close the ED Steam launcher
Then i open ED launcher from Epic and i start the game so i have both instances of ED running nicely side by side.

No passwords asked.

But this version is only possible with "genuine" Frontierstore accounts or the "old" Steam accounts.
The newer Steam accounts get logged in from their respective launcher prefeeded with login data.
The same goes to the latest Epic accounts and their launcher.

So it would be nice to have a tool at hand to switch between all of these. But it seems nearly impossible because of the different login structure from later Steam and Epic accounts. Might work if we'd get "genuine" Frontier keys for these copies, I don't know.

Oh and I'd be in for a second (third, ...) commander slot, too, but only if we'd be able to "merge" already existing accounts/commanders on request.

My 2 Ct.

I must be unusual, I just remember them, but I do keep track of my nieces and all her friends passwords because they have password memories that are 2 or 3 items in length and once they reach the fourth the first one automatically exits the queue forever, and then I get a phone call! :)

I didn't realize that. I know there is an option to link your Steam account in the launcher, which I've never selected because I figured it might make it more difficult for me to switch accounts. Is that what you're talking about or is it a new launcher entirely?

Just copy the launcher.exe. The copies store usernames and password independent from each other, but launch the same application.

No, the later Steam E: D versions do not start the launcher like it was at the beginning. You start, you are logged in... as usual... but if you log out from the launcher you're not able to type in "normal" Frontierstore account data, it's a pure Steam log in as it seems and it's also tied to that one steam account. You'd not even be able to type in the log in data of another steam account in the launcher because it doesn't match to the one Steam is running in the background. So you alway have to switch the Steam account first
(tested with 4 independent steam accounts).

The first Steam copies of E: D worked more or less like the "originals" from Frontiers store. You had to link them to a Frontier account and you're able to log out from the launcher and start e.g. a "genuine" E: D account (tested with 1 Steam and 2 FD accounts).

Epic accounts seem to behave more like the later Steam ones, you get logged in when you start and that's it.

That is awful, why would they change it to that lol. I guess I'll just make sure to download the Frontier Store version next time I build a new computer.

With two PC accounts installed in the default C: drive location I create two EDLaunch.exe files.

Windows 7 ... C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch.exe

Log into the 1st account, logout then make a copy of EDLaunch.exe = EDLaunch01.exe.
Log into the 2nd account, logout then make a copy of EDLaunch.exe = EDLaunch02.exe.

Make two desktop shortcuts for EDLaunch01.exe and EDLaunch02.exe.
Rename them as desired eg bubble, explore, different CMDR names etc.

Then click on the desired shortcut for the desired account with no username, password,
email authorization issues. In game ED Store connections will also be correct.

Others might have info using Steam or installing a 2nd ED account in a separate location.

I think installing two accounts in separate locations allows for running both accounts at
the same time but I've never tried it. Others will know.
