Multiple accounts

Ok I would like to have 2 characters, one could be out exploring in the far reaches of the galaxy and the other I would like to keep to wing up with friends etc.

I need to buy the game again I realise that but...

Can I run 2 accounts on the same pc at the same time?

And this is wishful thinking but I would love to be able to pass stuff between my accounts.

In that other space game I used to play I had 3 accounts that I used to run all at the same time.

Apparently, if you install the game in 2 seperate locations you can have 2 accounts without logging in and out.

You still need two licenses though.

As for passing stuff between them, if you could run 2 games at once on 1 PC (unless you have a semi capable laptop). You could transfer loads of high value cargo to sell. But that's about it.

I have two accounts.. just had to pay for them. And yes, install the launcher twice in separate locations, and it will work.

I have three. You can run one launcher and authorize different CMDR's with an email auth code each time you change, or install three separate launchers in different directories on your HD.

I use separate installs. Works great as I put the launcher shortcuts on my desktop with CMDR names identifying them.

NOTICE: I have 2 accounts and 1 install (steam horizons). If I want to play my other commander I just log out/ log in. Since a few weeks, I DO NOT have to obtain another verification code if I switch (thank you FD!).

I've been thinking about a second account for a while. The confirmation thing really put me off. I think I might do it if that's really the case now.

I think the OP's question is can you run two characters on a single computer at the same time. I have two CMDRs, but a single install, so I run only one at a time. The OP's idea is interesting though.

Yes if Fronteir worked on this and made it easyer it would increase sales for them and fun for us.

Maybe the same Frontier account with multiple ED accounts. Stuff can then be passed between the ED accounts as they are all registered with the same Frontier account.

I am also looking into creating another account.
I have just travelled out to Colonia and would like to setup another account so I can continue to play in the bubble as well as contribute to the expansion of Colonia .
But the current system of swapping accounts does seem cumbersome , It would be great if the accounts could be linked with some kind of pool of resources they could share . As suggested above :

Important - when you buy your 2nd account use a different email address - ie make a NEW account on the frontier store - it's the only way it can work - frontier don't let you have multiple email addresses on the one store account - so the game is forever tired the store account you have a unique store accounts - Stupid I know - but frontier just never thought it though.

Also the game journal files are NOT tired to your commander - so they all go into the same folder, ie c:\users\<yourname>\saved games\frontier developments\elite dangerous\journal.<datestamp>.log

Which means although you can simply swap user.config files for the launcher and launch into whatever account, all your logs will be in the same folder.
It does look like EDDiscovery handles this though :)

You shouldn't need to re-authenticate each time. There's two options: 'logout' and 'logout machine'; I only have to re-authenticate if I use 'logout machine'

This is just what i need. Can anyone confirm that this works with the latest launcher version?

Thanks in advance o7

Not so far. I have 2 accounts that I have just set up in separate folders with separate shop accounts, emails etc. and so far I can only launch one at a time. :¬P

It does work. Do you have two separate installs of the launcher? Are you closing the first launcher before starting the second?

Two accounts work just fine running at the same time. The easiest way is to purchase the second game account from a different provider, my original copy was purchased from FD, so I bought the second account from steam and installed it to a different drive (draw back is two copies means both required upgrading separately). You can then launch one copy, when it is running CLOSE THE LAUNCHER. You can then launch your second copy. You can make two short cuts each with the Cmdr name.

One Cmdr is in the bubble the other is in Colonia, however prior to this I used one account as storage for engineering stuff so I didn't have to cart it around with me. I currently have Soontill Relics and Meta-Alloys plus 34 Modular Terminals, also handy for the rare drop rates.

Now Cmdrs are in different locations I can't use for storage but they can wing up for that extra pip.

Happy days.

I'm running Win10 on an Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3430 @ 2.40GHz, 2394 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) 8Gb ECC Ram with a 2Gb Nvidia GTX770 graphics card.
When I start the 2nd launcher it starts up fine with the new credentials etc. But when I hit the play button for Horizons, the client window flashes one, then nothing!

Both of my installations are separate but I'm not using Steam.

I have two separate install like this and have even run them muticrew so it has worked fine for me.
I've not run both at the same time for some months now so I'll give it another go over the weekend to see if FD have changed something that breaks it. The only thing that could be an issue for you is the video card. I'm running an 8gig card so I have a lot more memory for GFX.
