Multyplayer and guilds do not equal PVP

Multyplayer and guilds do not equal PVP. Player versus player is only a small part of the interactions between players in a MMO. Unfortunately the only way for players to currently interact with each other in ED is combat. When guilds are mentioned people will immediately tremble in horror because the evil PVPers are out to chase them to the gates of hell.

Guilds are a crucial tool for socialization and player cooperation and, as a matter of fact, in all MMOs out there most players and guilds are PVE/coop oriented. And yes, this includes EVE. For every PVPer there are dozens of manufacturers, traders, miners, mission runners...

While there are players that are content with playing single player, there are an equal number of players that backed the game because they want to have engaging and varied interactions with other players. And it's not simply a matter of networking but of a general lack of tools for players to communicate, organize and interact with each other.

Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Facebook (for guild pages), Websites (for guild pages) are all ways you can create a community of players, effectively a guild. Just one without a "tag" in game.

That said, if there is sufficient call for guilds/corporation/whatever collective name you use then FD might look at it, they are not beyond taking the suggestions of large number of players and implementing them into the game even if there are no current plans to.

But simply the fact that there are no in-game tools for that means that very small number of people will be doing that.
And that means that the community will be very small, and the game itself essentially a singleplayer one.

+1

Seriously, they must to improve the social aspect of this game and Guilds is a basic feature, the basic feature for any MMO.

Guilds are so 90's :D Why are so many people hung up on having a CAPS-typing raed leedur telling them what they must do all the time? Why must you need to be in a gang? Does independent-thought bring you out in a rash?

please stop pushing your carebear agenda.

Oh well...no guilds. Frontier is really going all out for breaking the mold of MMO's. Or not understanding that Multiplayer is an MMO's middle name. I'm scratching my head on why this is being marketed as such. As I've stated in other posts, this is just an always online, single player game with some multiplayer features. Marketing this game any other way is going to cause large problems after release.

For what?

Maybe you like play in solo. I really like group game, co-operative missions, socialize with other people, to have something which shortens the distance with my friends and the guild is the best choice.

Not necessarily have a boss telling me what to do.
Now the multiplayer component present in the DDA is a bit lame.

I play in Open.

Guilds have their place, and they can be great fun - but in a game like Elite they make no sense at all.

Now open play = I do not talk to anyone, do not interact with anyone, do missions alone, just kill NPCs.
Sorry but where is the multiplayer?
Explain to me what sense does the word open play?
Only to see some ship with the suffix CMDR?

The idea of separating open play by play in group is a big mistake.

Urm, playing in open means you are playing with everyone else you can be islanded with. That means more than one player can be around you, hence it's a multiplayer game.

And which interaction you have with other players?

All depends. I shoot some, I (very rarely) dump cargo for some, I'll run from some, I'll chat with some, I'll help some shoot their targets, I'll watch their back while they mine.

Many things are possible. Especially with no guilds imposing rules on their workers.

Well, why not have the option for guilds or whatever it should be called? Then those who don't like being in one can simply... not be? And everybody should be happy.

I for one am afraid that this game will have to little interaction with other players to keep me entertained for a long period of time, so I would like more ways for this to happen, for sure.
