Murder

It seems people can abuse the system by buying a sidewinder and blowing themselves up. Not sure how this can be solved.

That's strange, I mean the thing with ghost ships. I've never seen that happening, nor I have ever any reports on that. Granted I don't read every single post on the forums, but I spend quite a lot of time here. Maybe you have weak sensors? Do they affect SC at all? Maybe the other players had their heat signature very low? I'm just speculating here.

I have had that too. I thought it was some advanced technique for hiding from sensors. Or maybe just not paying enough attention.

well I wondered the same, I have been flying a diamondbackX the sensors are E 3, In one case I saw the other party coming in SC then they disappeared. They were not on the outside of my sensors but not real close either. I assumed they dropped out of SC. but moments later I was interdicted and they never showed up on my sensors behind me(I was zoomed all the way in as well) I have also been interdicted by npc's this way as well. strange I'm the only one who has seen this.

I thought all ships should show up on SC? Am I wrong here?

::EDIT::

I agree that the bounties, especially for murder, should be MUCH higher. At the moment it's a bit of a joke. Of course higher bounties would allow for easier money farming, so there needs to be some sort of balance... It's a difficult one to get right I think.
my idea is higher fines would hurt the farming I presume

Why not hire some protection instead? I'm sure there'd be many Cmdrs willing to offer protection in exchange for the trade dividends and a few tonnes of Gold or Palladium. Why not use game mechanics instead of game play modes for that? Personally, I don't really care - it's your game and you can play it as you want, but there are other, more exciting and more fun possibilities than running away to Solo mode...

Agreed. Hiring some protection would be a great way of gaining ingame protection. Unfortunately, as stated previously, I am primarily an explorer and don't need it. [I do all my exploration in open, and most of my trading.] When I do, the only players I seem to see are either the strong, silent types, or are pirates.
I don't like solo, I don't see the long term draw of it. But as I said, the more considerate the pirates are, the less likely traders will dissappear. Nowhere in nature does any organism thrive by killing off it's food source, not even bacteria are that stupid. Tonight I will have made up the money I lost due to PP installation [REALLY slow connection speed in the village where I live, but I live in a rental and can't get it upgraded] and other setbacks, so as soon as that's done, I head away from Diso and back into open.

But would presumably mean higher bounties, encouraging the player BH base and maybe encouraging more actual players to take the BH route instead of pirating.
That way combat orientated players still get the combat they crave, but miss out on the thrill of being a bad [donkey] lawbreaker - so I presume not all will go for being a BH.
And at least higher bounties will help the BH players keep up with the traders. [Oooh, getting a little political there!]
.
But as I have said repeatedly on this forum, I'm not against pirating in general, just brainless pirating.
If I get interdicted by a player, and asked [yes, asked. Not expecting a "Please", but decent language.] to drop a reasonable percentage of my cargo, then I probably will. It would be nice for someone to have put a little thought into the act - maybe someone has turned to pirating because of having been swindled out of almost everything they have, and need to make enough money before they go home to pay off a gambling debt or something. Let's have something a little more three dimensional from the pirates, not just the same old "Drop your cargo or die" psychopath routine that EVERYONE uses.
.
Yes, in the [hopefully short] times I have to act as a trader to pay for exploration gear, I do accept that there is a certain risk. Last night my DC malfunctioned and drove me into the outside of a station, destroying my ship and cargo. [Bleep] happens. But if you want something from me, make sure you're not basically asking me to work for you without pay - and yes, if you're asking me to give up more than 50% of my profits, I'm basically playing the game for your benefit, not mine! Keep it under 20% and you will get a much better reaction. [Oh, and again, if you can't carry 20% of my cargo, don't ask for 20%. Same difference if a wing of 5 of you are looking at me. You split your 20% between you, you're not getting 20% EACH!]

Because if thats what FD truly wanted they would not have included an on-line solo mode.

They dont care what happens to the open universe as long as the $$$£££ keep rolling in.

What is the first item on the Mode selection screen? I was under the impression that it was in fact online Solo ;) And the $$ comment was completly unnecessary.
