Murdered by some Thargoid grievers!

An item on Maia news caught my eye about a professor who was missing and had last been seen in HIP 16378. As I was nearby in my Asp Explorer I thought I'd check it out. Followed a trail and eventally discovered a few Non Human - Threat 5 USS's, but only ever found wreckage of Imperial ships. I salvaged some damaged espcade pods and some data cannisters and decided to head back to my base in Sirius. Plotted my root, jumped and then, in the middle of hyperspace, I was Hyperdicted by at least one Thargoid vessel. From this point on, I had no chance.

Once I was dropped out of hyperspace all my modules were disabled. No power at all. Couldn't move an inch. All I could do was look around and there I saw at least one Thargoid vessel spitting out swarmers that looked like they were heading my way. Eventually a system-reboot spontaneously happened and power started to come back to my modules. Not liking the look of things I decided to hit boost a couple of times once my thrusters were back. I managed one boost before something hit me and my thrusters were completely disabled. Moments later my canopy went and the next thing I knew the onboard computer was shouting "Eject eject" and then I was looking at a rebuy screen (about 1m credits).

I should add that at no point did I do anything aggressive toward the Thargoid craft (hell, for most of it I couldn't even move). I never deployed hardpoints and my Asp was built for exploring, so had very light shields and armour. No idea what I could have done to defend myself. All I can think is that it was after the canisters I salvaged from the USS wrecks. Beware!

Isn't that what PvPers call emergent gameplay?
They'll be here soon cling you a carebear and telling you to git gud or something... Which I believe involves getting a huge tanked up Vette or Cutter...

They followed you eh? Neat.

I'm guessing you could have jettisoned the escape pods. They normally enjoy picking those up, could have bought you time. Possibly.

Hard luck but lesson learned!

"If FDev are scripting Thargoids to grief players, then, there is no reasonable argument against players doing it"

So, no need for a C&P system at all.

And I am as anti-pvp as you can get. In the Dictionary, under 'carebear', you'll find a picture of me.

But that is really what this script is implying..

Thargoid SDC members maybe hehe?

Jokes aside;

Why did you drop into a Threat 5 Non Human (or any Threat 5 USS for that matter) in a ship protected by a wet paper bag shield?

You picked up some Thargoid goodies and thought you would be safe??? That's being rather naive isn't it, major chance of Hyperdiction I would say, and with reports on the forums here of people having that happen when taking cargo etc from Non Human USS's I would of thought twice about it from the get go.

But, I am sure once we get some of these weapons, you can have some payback on those Thargoid scumbags!

I'm curious about what evasive manoeuvres you might have made?

Also, Did you have heat sinks? Did you have chaff?

This happend to me, i find the damage to actually be quite trivial but you were in an ASP afterall.

I believe its a bugged version of the hyperdiction where the Goids come out behind you, close in, scan you, and either shadow you or leave; instead the Goids go hurtling past you and stop moments away initiating the proximity defence, allowing them to open fire on you before your ship even resets.

This must be a bug because i seriously doubt FD would allow (as much as i wish they would) the Goids to be that much of a threat to people.

Guess curiosity got the better of me :) Never seen a non-human Threat 5 before, so just wanted to see what happened. I did have grade 5 clean drives and all pips to thrusters, so figured I could get away. Guess I was wrong :D

Thing is, immediately after Hyperdiction all modules were disabled - so there was literally nothing I could do. I had no power at all, just floating there. Then the Asp rebooted (by itself; I didn't do anything) and the second I got power back to thrusters I tried to boost away. Literally seconds or milliseconds later I was destroyed. Not sure by what, tbh. I did have heat sinks and chaff, but didn't get chance to use them.

Rather unlucky, especially with you having an explorer setup. However I'm glad they are a threat and they are unpredictable. As soon as we get the goods to fight back I will avenge you CMDR o7

Your ship is disabled by design (its part of the story), but sounds like either the Thargoid vessel got too close to you or you too close to it and it opened fire.
