Music unmutable in ED: Odyssey - Am I missing something?

So, I like playing my own music when playing games where that works out.

And as such, it makes it incredibly annoying when in-game music muffles through and is also in itself incredibly loud.

I tried googling to no avail not really finding much except a few ancient threads from 2015 that did not entail much regarding the problem itself anyways.

I have manually turned off every setting and muted everything possible:

Yet there is ingame, Ambient music tied to master volume still, you can hear it eerily soothingly play along in example clip:

Some parts of the music is even so loud that it completely drowns out the ships engines when flying... its driving me insane. I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove it.

Is there any way at all to mute this ambient music? Or will I be doomed to endure this deafening forced "enhanced youtube 422hz healing wave music 4 hr edition" nonsense ? :p

I never hear any music when I play. I wonder why mute isn't working for you? Sorry I can't help other than to say it works for me.

there is always music in elite with all above muted and streamer mode on (why some don't hear is beyond me)
there is always a deep space background spacey noise track playing which when sat idle in ship in space and do nothing...………….
it looses a little vol when you apply any thrust after you sit idle for a short while

there is no silence or just eng hum in elite (dammed annoying too imo)

Thank you it is not just me going crazy.

I was doing some planetary roaming around since i've not played in god knows how long and it was constant there, I noticed there was no ambient healing music when flying in a system however. and I did not attempt on foot to see.

But when planetary flying the ambient music is definately there and incredibly loud. in some times like you say thrusts will be louder, but for me most of the time the ambient music is deafeningly loud. and my choice is to either not hear the cool engines (which have updated sounds i think i don't recall my diamondback sounding cool like it does now?) And not hearing anything at all as master volume sadly is the only thing that lets me get this ambient thing away.

I do like ambient music here and there but would greatly love if we could choose when it is there and when it isnt.

I did some testing on this to see if I could hear any music like in the OP video anywhere.

And I did find a planet that I could hear it on, although it was very soft and hardly noticeable until I stopped moving and turned up the volume a lot (much louder than I would normally have it).

However, I also found that muting "sound effects volume" turns it off. So it's not considered music by the game, and to me it does sound more like a sound effect than music.

Anyway, you can turn it off with this setting. I don't know what other sound effects are affected (engine noise is), but I suppose if the 'music' is driving you crazy you can at least turn it off.

I really just wonder why it's so much louder on your system, but that's probably affected by sound drivers and whatnot -- I guess.

I'm glad it isn't prominent on my system, though. I hate music in video games and always turn it off. :)

probably more noticeable on a 7.1 surround system but I hear it when just on cans too...…….
yes codger your right it is of course a deep space sound effect emulating the exact same sound that space itself don't make...………...
and is turned down with game effects so its in the wrong sound setting too as its a frakkin music score a weird one but its music none the less
or we want a seperate control slider for that sound whatever the hell its suppose to be...……………………..
give us a real simulated space no external sound whatsoever mode
so devs say but that would be boring
so I suggest the following real world experiment
find a suitable vacume test chamber insert pressurized test vessel with micophone inside
fire a test lazer at vessel in vac chamber @ 2.7 kelvin external anbient or thereabouts
like two cans connected by string the sound from the lazer being generated can be heard too as it conducts via the beam itself (cool huh)
the outside of your vessel expands and then contracts rapidly with each lazer test firing the sound recorded from inside is teriffiying
weras a third party observer would however only record his own breathing if in another vessel right beside the first if the second vessel is not aimed and fired at
boring my ask!
if filmmakers and game devs got the science right I assure you it would be far from boring rest assured
oddly(music aside) the sound in the film GRAVITY is very close to realistic...…... oddly the GRAVITY itself is completely laughable
the lack of sound during HAL-9000 pod murder rampage is the stuff of legend of course...……………..

I thought I'd see if I could find this issue in a few hours of Odyssey gameplay yesterday. I have to say I heard absolutely nothing remotely like music anywhere; space, surface, settlements or stations. Now I normally have my audio music master volume operative (not muted) but with everything selected OFF apart from the in-world music (for the lounge atmosphere - I think that is all it covers since there seems no "lift muzak" any more) - obviously I switched that OFF during the experiment. I certainly heard none of the music in the OP's clip which reminds me of the old "exploration mood music" and I can see why @Kezha would find that annoying.

So I wonder if you tried not selecting "MUTED" in the master volume control whether that would make a difference to what you are experiencing?

my lift music is fine (jus booted to make sure lol!) (just the right smelting of cheez  )
but I would like a vol 2
like the bar music that differs from place to place

menu has traffic sounds
sc has engineering and station knocking sounds

my audio is off more than it is on because of these.

I love the sounds in the dogfights and I un-mute for that.

And as soon as I start hearing that station knock again, it gets muted again.
I have asked a couple times, why?

Parked on a planet or 60kLY from anything, the regular hammering in the station knocks start. How? Why?

There are no tires to check, so stop banging on my ship!

For me, none of this was ever noticeable or any kind of issue until the day the engineering audio broke and leaked into everything.
Seems to me, even though it is not the same sounds, that 1 track was simply replaced by another track. Both were and are still irritating.

That quitting to menu increases the volume of this ambient station noise, even if no-where near a station is ridiculous.

100% control of the audio is not available from the game, so main audio mute is what I use. But it was not always this way.
I used to control all my audio from my main PC, because of these sounds I no longer do this.
And Another computer in the room plays my music or tv or movies.

That is what i found too, that its there but not counted as music. If one looks up the "<Number>hz healing" sounds on youtube you'll find something very similar to it. Its not that its bad or what not but it is definately kind of "in the way"

After testing a lot it seems to be on planets when planetary flying, and not when flying around in actuall space, space stations, or any other setting. It kind of feels like it is supposed to be listed under "music" in backend, but was mistakenly forgotten in planetary flying.

I don't recall if its present when on foot, but iirc it was not, purely only when planetary flying. Which feels oddly specific :p

Thankfully it is not a gamebreaking thing

I can only hear it clearly when flying close to the planet surface, and I have to kill my engines and then turn up the sound. I think it's intended to be the ambient sound of the planet. It may even be different for different planet types, to give them a 'feel'. It's very unobtrusive on my system, barely noticeable unless I stop the engines completely.

Could this be related to the old exploration system where planets had specific holgrams and accompanying sounds do you think?

The HUD holos are still present in EDO too, right?
Yes they are but I don't think the sounds are - maybe I just have not noticed them.

I did however notice that background music as I was normal space flying over the surface looking for cacti - It doesn't seem loud to me but yes it is definitely there, a bit like exploration mood music I suppose.

P.S. I definitely don't have muzak in my lifts any more. I wonder why our experiences are so varied? I am using a 5.1 speaker system, maybe some levels are variant?

I had no music in lifts hence the recheck
I happened to play with the sound sample rate whilst using audacity and noticed my elevator music was back again
very odd or is it just a coincidence server/location bug I can confirm music in barnards star lifts @tm(y)
