MUST WATCH! The Making of ELITE (documentary film)

In this video you'll find the full documentary
about the making of Elite with first person
declarations by the authors of the game.

ELITE was a seminal space trading video game, originally published by Acornsoft in 1984 for the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron computers. The game's title derives from one of the player's goals of raising their combat rating to the exalted heights of "Elite". It was written and developed by David Braben and Ian Bell, who had met while they were both undergraduates at Jesus College, Cambridge. Non-Acorn versions of the game were published by Firebird, Imagineer and Hybrid Technology.

That was great. Its not often I sit through an entire youtube vid.

Was that on channel 5 or something?

It really shows you what an unbelievable achievement it was to do what they did.

There was 150,000 BBC computers in the UK at that time, and elite sold 150,000 copies, every single person with a bbc owned elite. Thats a must have game if I ever heard one.

Thanks for that.

I like the old - I know the game is ready for release and everything, but we have this really cool scanner thing we would like to add, would it be ok?

That just wouldnt happen with most games now.

Game pubs would either say
a. who cares
b. Patch it in later
c. sounds like you made some DLC.
d. Thats why we have sequels.

Old movie but a great story about two important people for the Elite: David Braben and Ian Bell. Without them We would not be here :) .
