I would absolutely love a CZ based around a station, asteroid field, or orbital installation.
- No combat missions in asteroid rings or above planet surfaces. Another missed opportunity. All bounty hunter mission targets are out in open space. How about having to fly into planetary rings or down to planet surfaces to hunt them down? Some of my favourite fights have occured in the drop out zones of gas giants and on planet surfaces with random wanted ships that have appeared on my scanner. Sure you can go to a haz res for some ring combat action, but why not missions in them too?
If war states put blockades around whatever asset was being contested it'd be even better.
Imagine going to a system at war, you engage the nav-lock.. "Warning, conflict zone detected" and it drops you 20km out instead of the usual 8-9km. Whichever side are attacking/blockading the station will fire upon any ships that approach - unless you pledge to their side, in which case the CZ scenario victory condition is to destroy defending ships and those entering and leaving the station.
For the purposes of the scenario, the station's exterior guns have been sabotaged/shot out at the start of the siege. (hell, station guns should be damageable anyway, just... suicide for a lone attacker to attempt it)
