My biggest problem with the game

Hello CMDRs (and developers if you stumble upon this thread),

I've been playing and enjoying this game non-stop since I got it but I have a big problem that starts chewing on my enjoyment; I can't find a ship that suits me.

I'm more of the type of guy that likes doing everything in one ship, be it with the correct outfitting for each task. However I can't find a small or medium multipurpose ship I'm comfortable with. This is because the ships that would fill the "space pick-up truck" role look terrible (both on the outside and in the cockpit) and thus give me a "bad" and non-enjoyable feeling when using them. For example the Cobra is a space pancake, the Diamonback never stops reminding you how heavy and ready it is to overflow due to big modules being forced into a relatively small frame and the Asps are space bricks. Ever got that feeling when you need to borrow someone else's car and when you start driving you say out loud "Ohh what the hell?" and then you are hating it for the rest of your trip? I'm feeling kinda like that. I can't play because all the time I'm feeling uncomfortable.

I saw the Chieftain and I was so glad because personally I loved the way it looked both outside (not a flying brick/ pancake/ cheese block) and inside (not a Lakon glasshouse with a workbench in the middle for a cockpit) but it was too good to be true, as I soon realized that 3 out of 8 of its internal compartments were military exclusive. Thus, my hopes of finally finding what I was looking for burned up in flames.

I know that it might sound stupid and there's pretty much nothing you (the players) can do about it but I just felt like I needed to get it out of my system and also see if any other players are feeling like this.
All join the "No2SpaceBricks" movement (lol).

The answer to your question - any question in fact - is 'Python'.

I tend to agree with you on that. The Python is a pleasure to fly. Certainly after you have spent any time in the other medium / large ships [haha]

I know what you mean about your disappointment with the Chieftain... Same here.

I'm holding out for a decent exploration ship... <Holds Breath>

Yeah, shortest thread ever :D

Indeed, a fully PVE equipped Python can haul cargo enough to do missions. Add a few cabins to do passenger missions, or switch a cabin for refinery and go mining. Usually things that can do everything aren't good at anything, but with some minor tweaks, the python does a hell of a job. Best medium sized multi purpose ship available.

The Python is most Players go-to ship, as it certainly is one of the most flexible multi role vessels out there. However, it can be useful to build different ships for specific purposes, and then just switch between them as and when you want a change. I personally have eight ships, and I am currently out exploring in my Asp Explorer The Curious Cricket.

I agree with my fellow cmdrs.
The Python is considered the king of the medium pad.
It has no competition at all.

It is quite good or even excellent at most/all roles you throw at it.
It is an excellent ship for ranking and missions as you will never be limited by station size.

An A-rated Python is not cheap though, but it is worth it.
I think every cmdr can use a Pyhton in his/her fleet.

The Chieftain is basically a military design for the Alliance, so it was bound to have military slots.

Several more as yet unannounced ships are going to be released this 'Beyond Season' and, from what I could read between the lines, some will be variants.
Perhaps Lakon will release a cargo variant for the Chieftain? I don't know, but that would be cool.

Python has cockpit seat in the right side, hasn't it?

Then isn't an option. Too many years seated in the left seat

For now anyway. I do fear the krait may bring the end times for our lovely Python :O

Competition for the Python would be very welcome.
I have been asking for that for years.

It stands to reason that for example Imperial Gutamaya would produce a ship with similar traits as the Python.
Currently the Empire has no good medium sized cargo hauler. I think that would be completely unacceptable to the Empire.

But also competitors of Faulcon DeLacy like Lakon would want to get in on the profits to be made in this medium pad niche.
Freight is Lakon's core business and they have not produced a single medium pad freighter to this date. That is odd and needs to be corrected.

I am 'ambi-cockpit-seatous'.
I can get used to any seating position.

Agree, I had hoped the imperial courier was going to be more like the original and squeeze into a medium pad. 😕

Agreed if Gutamaya wish to stay in the competiton they should really be looking at releasing some midium size ship for cargo/combat. They have been quite for almost 3 years they must have something in the works

Maybe its hard for them as haulers are always seen as slow sluggish ship and as seen from Gutamaya they really have a fettish for speed hehe

I'll add another voice for the Python. It's my go to mission running/light haulage ship.

I'll add however that it only really came into it's own (for me) after I engineered everything on it to the max! But now it'll hold it's own against most NPC's except perhaps high rank wings of Gunships/Anaconda's etc. But then it does well over 400 mps so in that case I just leave.

But it's a great ship to start your journey in as it'll grow with you.

LOL good to know I wasn't the only one hoping the Chieftain could be made into a half-decent exploration ship. I was so looking forward to exploring in style. :D

LoL me too... But those 5 internal slots was a killer... If they converted even one of the military slots it could be doable, 2 slots would be great. But as it is, it's never going to be an exploration ship. :(

Up until last week, I would have agreed python was the way to go...but Ive since sold my python after climbing into the clipper. I gotta say that despite the need fer a large pad, it doesnt handle like a large ship at all...a genuine pleasure to fly.

Now certainly, the python is more effective at being a jack of all trades and master of none, but fer those who prefer a bit more style and attitude, its hard to beat the clipper. I now use mine fer just about everything except data deliveries, although the reason fer that is simply because the large pad requirements locks out about half the stations I need to go to.

Ive spent long enough time in big ships like the type 9 and more recently the type 10 to say this does not handle or feel like a big ship. This one comes highly recommended and has been a soothing balm to the grind of getting it unlocked in the first place...that being its only drawback...gotta get to baron just to unlock it. The flip side being its only 20m and even with an A rate fit, rebuy is still under 5m which is pocket change truth be told ^

Only fall back to this is getting through all those Imp-Ranks just to get it.

Granted yes, but if one wants to visit the likes of sol or achenar, one must unlock the permits which incidentally unlocks the ships to their respective power. Some players unlock the ships and permits over time...some farm data deliveries fer a couple weeks whatever.

But take a look at all the rank locked ships and think about how many players use them and nothing but them after using bog standard vanilla ships to get them in the first place. The guy that loves sports cars in real life...gotta make the pennies to get it and run it. Only true enthusiasts will truly appreciate them...but if yer happy with vanilla then yer happy with vanilla ^
