Newcomer / Intro My C drive is full, is it ED?

EDDiscovery creates a local database from online data, the size is very large (several GB).
There is a portable version that can be run on units other than the C.

I have a 1tb SSD hard drive and its full since I have been playing ED. Don't know whats going on.
I did install EDDiscovery and I wonder if it the culprit, it seems to keep all the journal files.
Any ideas what is filling my hard drive up?

eddiscovery maintains its own database and it's several gb. you can relocate it to another drive though: start it while holding down the shift key, select the option to move database. more info here: https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/wiki/Safe-Mode

Thank you..I have a suspicion that nvidia was recording my desktop...:(

😂

well, afaik shadowplay at least does ask you specifically for permission to record your desktop, so that should be a pretty strong suspicion 😉 or you're as heavy a drug user as me!

I guess I have been recording my screen as you say.
The file was hidden ...at least Win Explorer did find it but Windirstat found it and let me delete that 750GB mpeg 4 file.
I have no idea how it was recording my screen

If you use an Nvidia GPU, and have installed the GeForce Experience software, you may simply have triggered the right (wrong) key to start the recording. IIRC the default recording key is pretty close to ED's default screenshot key. You should get a popup on the screen, though, whenever the recording starts or ends.
No idea whether wondows game bar could do similar shenanigans.

They have revamped the database, it is now much more compact. My EDDSystem.sqlite file is now only 3.37GB and that is the whole EDSM data and the user database is just over 1GB and that includes several accounts over 4 years.

EDIT: After reading @Morbad remark I checked and see that my netlogs / journals since 2016 total 280MB and 467MB - my netlogs for 2015 are 85MB.

2nd Edit: This reminded me that I had the Public Test Server still on there - so that is 22GB deleted now. :)

My eddiscovery folder is now 11GB. Which is actually smaller than I anticipated. This is the portable version on my F: drive (not ssd, which is quite small at 255GB)
Just another thought - I have moved all my system folders for documents, pictures, music, downloads etc to F: as well, which seems to work quite well.

I think that is exactly what happened. I was trying to take a screen shot and may have started recording on GeForce software. Was hitting Alt-F1. I got no popup that I can recall.

netlogs != journals. My journals from 2014 to now are just over 800M...

But yeah, if you have netlogs then they can be larger. Still unlikely to be 1Tb 🤷‍♀️

Yes I too thought that all netlogs were replaced and now were journals BUT if you look in your EDLaunch\Products\elite-dangerous-64\Logs directory you will see lots and lots of netLog.xxxxxxxxx.log files (yes up to the current date). So the game is still keeping netlogs as well as the Journal files in your saved games directory structure.

If your EDDSystem.sqlite file is over 3.6GB then I wonder if the database conversion failed / hasn't run as I am sure that @iain666 said that is his file size too (he is one of the authors).

Interesting - I vaguely remember switching that on but thought I had switched it off again - but you are correct and it is much larger than journals. Not sure if it defaults on or off anymore :)
