My concern about multicrew

The gunner view is enough to turn me off multi crew - a slapped on third person view for anything in this game is the last thing I want to see. First the rubbish SRV turrent I deplore and avoid using where possible and now this... meh. All I wanted was to sit in a turrent, target ships and fire, not this half baked, immersion to hell approach to turrets we have now.

Gotta love those magical cameras, invisible to the eye but floating just behind the SRV turret non the less.... Or so I'm led to believe.

Yes, the 3rd person multi crew thing sounds awful but the SRV turret is similar to the B-29's remote turret (on the left below).

True, but like CylonSurfer, it irks me to have the camera view point behind the turret, floating in space. It would have been a simple matter to design a camera blister/pod onto the turret, and view out from that instead. You'd still see both turret guns etc, but have a firm understanding you're looking through a camera system, not floating in space.

Even the in-flight camera could be a little drone model someone could whip up in short order.

Ok I did some more analisys of Sammarco's words on the dev update about 2.3. And I compared them to the following concept art:

It seems that all the clues are just under our eyes.

From Sammarco:
"The gunner role allows a crewmember to take control of all turreted weapons on the ship. They do not need to jump between turret views though."

He mentions "turret views", although there's no need to switch between turrets. So my suspect is there will not be direct turret views in game, infact:

"Using a third person interface, they control a reticule that all turrets within their arc will automatically follow; giving them improved spatial awareness and easy control of all turreted weapons."

Here he talks about third person interface, not third person view this brings me back to the concept art, where we see a commander sitting in the gunner station in the middle of a GUI(?) looking at something that looks like a 3D holographic reticule representing a turret firing at a 3D holographic ship.

"They also have access to two “quick slot” fire buttons, in addition to normal fire groups, that they can customize with modules, allowing them more options for activating weapons and scanners.

Furthermore, the gunner has access to advanced sensor systems, allowing them three hundred and sixty degree tracking arcs. This lets them activate advanced scanners (such as the kill warrant scanner) and missile launchers in any direction."

Here I see more clues that point to a head-on graphic interface, very similar to the actual Helm's GUI, that simulates everything in 3D holograms.

Well, I guess my concerns are mostly gone by now. I like the idea to be sitting near the pilot, in the ship's cockpit, immersed in VR and playing the game just like we are used to. :)

Fingers crossed (both hands)

We should at least be able to turn our heads and other commanders in our ship should be able to see our heads turn, they HAVE to at least include that!
