My coolest discovery of 2017: World of Giant Canyons

The samples they showed were actually stunning.. one of the big reasons why I am postponing my biggest Expedition across the Galaxy.. hope it's worth it

Nice find, CMDR.

AFK from my game machine can someone say how far away it is from the bubble?

Looks like some of those peaks are 10-12km high... Might take a trip there if it's not too far away...

Bit OT but the forums have all gone screwy - the old look has changed. Anyone else seeing this?

My understanding is that the Q1 update will just recolor the planets, not alter the topography. However the Q4 overhaul is supposed to bring bigger changes, that they're being more vague about, including exploration gameplay changes as well as an overhaul of ground scatter. I have no idea if they're doing topographical changes as part of that.

I think it’s about 1500 ly away or so, so not that far. And yeah, some of the canyons are at least that deep.

Cheers. I've finally repped you - for some reason (as reported in post further up) my browser went into screwy mobile device mode and stopped working properly. Cleared my cookies for this site and it all works again now.

Anyone want to take a risk and find out how long it takes to base jump one of those beauties in an SRV?

Take my advice, don’t do it if you have any exploration data. If you get separated from your ship, your chances of getting back to it are essentially zero as recalling it probably won’t help you.

If you quit the game and start up the non horizons client it will give you a message about not suppoting planet surfaces and would you like to respawn in orbit. Its like a last resort reset button when you dont want to trouble support.

Man, this world reminds me of how planets could look before the 2.2 update. It's like this one wasn't touched by the terrain normalization at all! A very excellent find, I used to love finding worlds like this one. 2018 and Beyond has a lot to live up to!!!
