How did Elite influence EVE? EVE was first a board game based loosely on Elite. The developers of EVE in many interviews have stated that EVE was very heavily influenced by Elite in the creation of EVE and is what drove them to finally take EVE from a board game to an online computer game.

Twitch shooting(or FPS - first person shooter) requires a players own agility skill, where as most MMO's click on target, lock target, then spam hotkeys. And from many polls on various MMO gaming websites - your average MMO player does not like FPS style combat - they think it takes away from the RPG aspect of the game and some feel FPS straight up doesn't belong in an MMORPG and should be left to FPS shooter type games. I'm not making this stuff up. I've been writing about MMORPG's since before the Internet was even an Internet.

Not bad review, I'd disagree with certain elements of the conclusion - i.e the cons, not cons for me, rather plus points that help you to play with care and consideration:

Cons:

• Is not very forgiving - you can loose ships and money - worth millions of credits if you're not really careful.
• Steep learning curve.

You're not playing yourself in game, you take on the role of being someone else in game - like a pirate, or bounty hunter. That makes it a role playing game.

While I very much enjoyed your review and enthusiasm. The entire thing is based in what it could be (at least in the beginning) and not what it is now. Unfortunately there is no real way to actually tell if all of these amazing things you suggested will actually be in the game now 5 years from now or never.

But great review thumbs up.

I'm a gamer - I like MMO's best of all(though recently I have been playing Skyrim(still) and Elite). I know where you are trying to go with this question, so I'll answer that. In my opinion Elite is not quite a true MMO - yet. It doesn't have the necessary community and social tools we generally associate with an MMO type game. Until Frontier puts them in place, I think Elite is a wannabe MMO, but currently plays more like a co-op game.

Its about as much as a co-op game right now as it is an MMO.. i have 8 friends who play.. we have yet to coopertivaly do anything except buy commidities from a station, dump them in space for the "friend" who can then pick up them as stolen to sell back to the station...

Right now, its nothing more then a Multiplayer game with other players hanging around. Same class as say, DCS-World..

thats not a dig at FD.. im a huge fan of ED.. and i hope to see all the MMO updates they add in the near future.. i cant wait till me and my friends can join a squad and go do stuff together.. heck evan DCS-Wolds lets us do that Until then, Im enjoying the game as a SP experiance while meeting other commanders online
