My first 2h open play after 100h solo

No that is certainly no true. I way outside of the station 10km+ away in open space. NPCs to not boost into me in these situations.

Yep, NPC's don't act that way and the way he acted is not the way I expect a player to "properly" act in game. He was simply waiting for an easy target and the current mechanics in the game allow it with it seems little recompense. A pirate attack right outside of a station like Lave should have made big news and big bounty which cannot easily be paid off, but when I say "properly" I mean he is taking advantage of the game mechanics in open to allow such attacks and therefore aren't really illegal.

Your problems started when you kept doing rares in a type-6

His 'problem' was nothing of the sort. He can do whatever he pleases in whatever type of ship he pleases. It's not a 'problem' to do that. He should be able to fly around without expecting to be rammed by another player on purpose when he's not in a dogfight with that person.

Perhaps his only miscalculation was in expecting everybody to be reasonable and decent and have actions justifiable by in game reasoning. Instead it sounds like he ran across somebody who delights in wrecking other people's gameplay and calling it 'PvP' or whatever term they use to try justifying their actions. Essentially he ran into a complete jerk who thought it would be the height of hilarity to destroy his ship by ramming it. I'm sure there'll be no end of people piling on and telling the original poster that he sucks, or is playing wrong, or that he should be happy he got destroyed because it was 'player interaction' or some other such rubbish. More than likely these are the same people who will whine about people not playing in open mode and begging the developers to force others to play in open mode so they have more trolling targets to abuse.

Essentially the original poster dipped his toes into open mode to try it out and was senselessly trolled and scared back to solo play by a griefer. Too bad, I guess, for the griefer, if they actually cared. More than likely though they'll get their jollies from this game, do what damage they can, then go on their way to some other game where they can do essentially the same thing to others. Yeah, yeah, "but the universe is a dangerous place with no rules" or some other nonsensical and illogical statement coming up I'm sure.

Bottom line, there are trolls in this game. You ran into one. You have to decide whether or not the experience is enough to make you want to play solo mode to avoid potential bad experiences like that in the future. Weigh in your mind whether or not having players interact with you is worth more to your enjoyment than having npcs who act in a generally consistent manner and who won't ever kill you 'just because'.

except that isn't true. Yeah you might have a bigger ship, but you'll still be useless against commanders who have had practice fighting other players. you'll still be likely to be taken out by player driven eagles vipers and cobras.

No, because this was not a combat situation. I had no chance. I selected my destination, aligned trajectory, boom. It came out of nowhere. This was not a realistic situation, it was stupid gamey GTA. I'd have no problem being pirated, i even had tobacco and booze with me to offer.

Sorry but yes it is true... I have been rammed by NPCs out of combat on a number of occasions, often from behind and without warning. I don't mind in Combat but it is galling in other cases.

But if a human player does it, it is bad, though there is no reason to think it was personal, "accidents" do happen, perhaps you should have seen him coming and moved out of his way! So do not state something as a certainty when it patently isn't.

It's common sense to never enter open without a combat-geared full-A ship. Otherwise you are just asking for it. And even then, you may encounter a dumbfire-eagle that will kill you with one valley or some suicidal cobra with torpedoes.

Do you realize how stupid this is? Trading is a big part of the game. Trading could become more dangerous, interdictions etc, but this is just stupid trolling. It breaks the game. If open means everyone behaves like a jerk, this will kill the game in the long term.

I'm playing open in a mostly C class Asp and I have no trouble with other players. No coincidence the OP had a bad experience in the Lave system. The crusade nutbar crew usually advertise where they're going to be on the forums, and if there's nothing recent, you can assume Lave.

I also never hang around a nav point for bounty hunting when I see other players.

I still call on the OP. I have yet to get rammed by a player in open in a non-combat scenario and I only play open. Maybe the Asp pilot didn't see the Type-6. Also who does rare trade in a type-6? I mean really what a waist 2hrs for 80t of cargo making about 1.3millish >.>

10km away in space? I can see it happening around the entrance to starports, especially as they seem to like to sometimes crawl up the sides and then come in from a blind spot (easy to spot on scanner though if you're paying attention).

So you are telling me an NPC will ram you in open space by accident so hard that it instakills your type 6 with 4A shields?

1. You can only collide deliberately 5 km away from the station.
2. After timer starts ticking, you completely lose control of your ship.

I played ~100h solo and had amazing fun. I loved it. Amazing game. Yesterday i started playing open, because everyone said it's much more fun. I had two "encounters" with players.

1. I was bounty hunting at nav point. There was another cmdr, had no bounty on him, i greeted, let him chase his targets. He on the other had had big fun killing mine. Well, it's valid. But no fun.

2. I was in my A grade type 6, had collected 80t of rares in 2h. Just left the station, aligned with the jumppoint, then a sound of engines boosting, big face of an ASP rushing towards me, boom. 80t rares gone, 2h gone, 250kCr insurance gone, 100kCr uncollected bounties, gone, fun gone, amazing feeling about this game gone.

I'm not going to play open anymore. Sad, because NPC are lame and generic. When it comes to NPC Elite means nothing, they are all easy kills with a nice viper. But some cmdrs are obviously stupid children seeking the GTA experience. Damn.

I play on both Open and solo.

I prefer Solo because there are no idiots doing Ram Raiding on solo. The bounties on Open are very nice and you can make a lot of money pretty quickly. I haven't had a problem with PVP as I don't think anybody actually lives in the deep space areas I am in. Think I have seen 3 CMDR's in last week.

Its a real shame you got hit like this, but do not give up on Open. get a supped up Viper and kill some bandits on open, you'll soon be laughing again.

Maybe consider: It was fun doing long rare runs with the type 6, i don't care about powergaming. And 1.5 mil in 2-3h is fine for me. So, there you can keep your for yourself.

Yeah I fear taking a type 6, but then you usually run when interdicted. Just because you've never had an issue though doesn't mean it didn't happen to him.

Regardless, people have suggested trying private groups and that should hopefully fix the OP's issue.

I seriously hope they make Open and Solo/Group modes so that you can't transfer credits/ships over. Essentially two commander slots. Roll it in a patch, next time you login you're presented with the option of permanently choosing a mode for your current commander, then you can make another one for Open or Solo/Group.

The irony here is that the people calling for this don't realize that, if this were to happen, the number of people playing in open would drop dramatically because they simply would never bother with it. I can tell you right now that my experiences in open have almost all been with griefers, and if I couldn't go to solo mode and earn some money first, I simply would never play open. Period.

So good luck with that. Just remember that your calls of "segregate open and solo!" are really calls of "please dramatically reduce the number of people who play open mode."

You're much better off letting us switch between them.

No this was no accident, it was 10km in open space. And i crossed path with the ASP when exiting the station, he was entering at the same time and obviously changed his intention to dock.

I've been playing for a month, nigh on, and haven't got past 300k credits, so 1.5 million in 2-3 hours, plus costs of your ship(s) seems like a decent reward to me.

Yup completely agree. Try going out a way from lave. They all sup too much of the brandy round there Ive been in open all the time however I haven't been anywhere particularly busy since 1.04.
Also take his/her name and join a group of civilsed people.

Well some player obviously think that this game is about optimizing your income ingame, that it takes skill to powerplay etc.
