My first gold found and hauler buy...

Hi there :) I finally found some ^^ Well, quite frustrated cause I were in the sidewinder on the first gold encounter... so I recovered around 4+K (only)... had to leave the other 6 somewhere lost in space!

But.... as I already had some little cash, and those new +16k.... I thought... what the hell, let's buy the big showel (hauler) and get out for more gold hunting! Well, I found one site.. GOLD GOLD GOLD again... but I just had time to deploy my cargo scoop, that another NPC ship joined in.

I forgot that I read somewhere that the only thing is to jump immediately, so the time I understood he went red and I was to slow, I exploded ^^ Well, 2300cr I had to pay to get the hauler back, so, yes... I still had enough.

One more run, with more care now! After 10 minutes entering different unknown signal places, I finally got the right one! I charged all 10 gold pieces, still 6 free spaces left but I was already nervous enough getting back all that without being 'sniped' or rammed or what ever...

And.... yes, I brought 'em home! In one row, 40k... WOW! Hell was that night an enjoyable :)

:D

living on the edge that's what divines fun.

the pleasent part, I thought I'd lost my hauler... I had enough cash to get a new one, but coming back into cost me less than 3k... is the insurance by default enabled? :D That was the good surprise... after the gold found too...

Yep, got my first golden windfall yesterday as well.

Actually I went max on shields and deployed hardpoints before deploying the cargo scoop.

The insurance is not enabled by default, it's something you cannot disable. Whenever your ship is destroyed, you get the option of buying a similar ship back.

The trick is never to load up so much cargo that you don't have the credits for the insurance if it comes to that.

does that means you have to may MAX when you're loaded full, and way less when empty??? A luck I was empty the first time....

No, that's not it.

When you are destroyed, you get a menu from which you can pick what to buy back: The ship, this weapon, that weapon, oh and I'd like the K-Warrant scanner back as well please.

Each item will cost you a fraction of its original price.

What you cannot buy back at all is the cargo you carried at the time. And if you are out of credits, you can't buy back your ship either.

So if you pick up lots of valuable cargo to the point of having no credits left, should you get destroyed, you won't be able to buy back your ship either, losing everything in one fell swoop.

I heard that, later on in the game, you will be able to go into debt to buy back your ship, though.

Edit: Above warnings nonwithstanding, I've busted my maxed-out Cobra yesterday evening when I took on a load of... let's say, "valuable" cargo, not paying attention to how much it depleted my credit balance. Met a pirate en route I thought I could take out easily, and had him ram me to death. Insurance (without modules) would have been ~8k, and I had only 5k left. Back to Sidewinder, Azeban. Ah well. :-D
