My first time being pirated.

If you didn't fully comply within the first 5 seconds after receiving my message I'd also open fire. Because then I only have 10 seconds left before you log out using the menu.

If FD added a 'target is loggin out - x seconds left' warning akin to the 'surge detected' warning I'm sure more pirates would be willing to haggle.

The people who keep saying "pirates aren't supposed to be nice. That's just what pirates do. bla bla bla" tend to forget that this is not real life and traders do not have no other choice but be targets for piracy.

Pirates and traders have a relationship that only works with mutual respect for each others profession. Traders respect pirates by playing in open and therefor providing themselves as targets while pirates need to respect traders by treating them fairly (not destroying them, when they cooperate) and giving them the thrill of possible danger during a usually boring activity.
The important part here is that pirates are depending on this relationship for their profession to work while traders are not. They can simply switch to private or solo and be done with it.
This is players you are dealing with here, who try to have a good time, just like you. This isn't the sea around the year 1700 where people tried to make a living.

Agreed. Respect goes 2 ways....and everyone is always better off when it happens.

I'm a mercenary - I love Pirates.

It's just a pity that they only get such a low bounty.. 400cr ?? what the??
the new bounty system will make pirates always have bounties but clever ones will move between system so often that their bounties are always very low.
The bounty system that was hailed seems to now be circumvented by its own rules and should definitely be altered.
(maybe make black markets pay out bigger when the player has a bigger bounty, no?)

Every person who plays in open is my content, as I am theirs. I will decide how I treat others, as they will decide how to react to me. It's up to them to be prepared enough to handle me, as it is up to me to be prepared enough to handle them. This is true when I am a pirate, trader, whatever. I am using them for my personal enjoyment of the game, just as they are using me. You consent to being someone else's content as soon as you load up open play - nowhere does it ask anyone to respect each other's time and effort.
.
People say 'pirates need to do this or that'. Well yes, to a degree, pilots need to not kill off all their game (though NPCs will never go away). However, everyone needs to remember that before we are pilots or traders, we are independent spacers of the pilots federation. We only adopt certain archetypes, however we are by no means bound to them. Anyone can do anything they want for any reason and while it may make them a counterproductive pirate, it does not make them any less of an independent spacer of the pilot's federation.

Hmmph. It was very different than I expected.

I was in 34 Pegasi, and I had evaded about 4 interdictions before finally being stopped. They asked for 100t of my Imperial slaves, which I was fully prepared to give, but they asked for abandoned, and only gave me 5 seconds. I dropped my shields to show compliance, and began to chat with them to tell them about how abandoned cargo is "gaming-the-game". I got five words in and died.

Thankfully, CMDR S7's got my back and attacked them. :)

It's pirates like this that ruin it for all. They chase traders to solo. They handle the game like a business, with no respect for their fellow player. I was prepared to die going in, but that was atrocious, and I'm itching to put the killer's name on here. Don't kill the traders, you lose business that way.
i always kill traders or anything for that matter, its kill or be killed

There's honorable pirates, and there's scum pirates. Sounds like you ran into the pk scum type...which all honorable pirates should be killing on sight. Pirating IS a business...it makes life miserable for traders, but hey, its Elite DANGEROUS, right? Just hand that guy's name to CODE, and let them deal with him...he'll wish he'd never set foot on his first sidewinder LOL
the code can do nothing ive been on there kos for ages and never seen nor fought with them

Well I've just been pirated for the first time ever too, by a bloke and his mate.

Submitted to interdiction in my lowly Type 6, stopped engines, and boom. Destroyed within 5 seconds by at least 1 clipper.

I was looking forward to some banter, dropping some stuff, and getting off back to my trading. But no, just wiped out. :D My son thought it was very funny :)

;)

Obviously not pirates . . .

I wish people would learn the difference.

I agree, obviously not in the sense of the word as I understand it, but there we go.

The did shoot my cargo hatch first, so they got some cargo - does that count? :D

Was it you Jukelo ? ;)

Keep your PM threats to yourself.

I originally had lots of bad experiences with "pirates", so much so i would just immediately attack anyone who interdicted me for whatever reason because i found that giving them the benefit of the doubt usually meant a quick death for me.... However, more recently i've found myself bumping into proper pirates and the difference is night and day. The first time i panicked, tried to run but they caught me (they were in a wing of 4 so didn't even attempt to fight them), they demanded 25t of the 200t cargo i was carrying which i thought was quite reasonable and i even cocked up and dumped the cargo without being abandoned and then gave them too much LOL - i even had a little chat with them; quite gentlemanly (considering i was being robbed LOL). That is proper piracy in that they didn't demand too much so i still made a huge profit on my trade run and i got away with my life and ship intact!
It's the lunatics that pretend to be pirates that spoil things. Once again i do think FD should help out more here by perhaps making piracy a legitimate career (so to speak) or at least introducing some mechanism that will help us quickly see those that have some kind of piracy rank or stats so we know beforehand if we're being interdicted by a lunatic who is likely to kill me or a pirate who's more likely to just steal a reasonable amount of cargo... At the moment it's just impossible to tell which is which....

Sounds like a bit of a jerk, keep your chin up, and keep the goods flowing :)
...unless your not working for the empire, then I may just find you someday and "convince" you to switch sides ;)

But I am a nice guy ;) - unless someone is *really* fighting back, I let folks go at 50%ish hull, still fun for RP powerplay :)

Nope it wasn't me. I just happen to 1) hate xenophpobia 2) be french and therefore can't stand your attitude.
By the way, nice breaking the forum rules by discussing the content of private messages on the forums.

Clearly wasn't intended as offensive, and it has been removed. I'll apologise if you will do the same, and we can get the thread back on track.

I'm going back out in my little T6 to see if he's still there so I can say hi :)
