My friends don’t play elite dangerous

Also ED isn't "fun out of the box" for lots of people especially if they are learning it alone. It would be much easier with a buddy physically beside a new player helping with setup and
initial couple hours of gameplay.

It is too bad multicrew isn't better allowing a new player to join a ship and observe how to actually do stuff. There is a "training" option
when you accept a friend for crew but they can only look out the window. You can't help them through the menus, navigate, etc.

A good multicrew training mode would be fantastic for helping a buddy get into the game. A mode where "they see what you see".

I discovered elite dangerous in spring ‘17 and I’ve been trying to get my friends into it ever since. Even my friends who are relatively into gaming can’t be bothered. Anyone else out there feel my pain?

Why don’t more people play this game? It’s unparalleled - it has no equal.

I want to wing up with my boys but they’re all busy killing zombies and doing whatever you do in Destiny.

It’s weird because I know there is this great community of people-shoutout to Obsidianant!-but the actual experience of playing elite dangerous sometimes still feels kind of lonely. Can anyone recommend some activities or player groups? Something? Anything? I think FDEV has to loosen its grip and let us run the galaxy a little bit more. Yeah, maybe it would be chaos. Maybe chaps would be good.

It's quite a boring kind of game tbh. It's probably quite niche. I've had a few friends try it and give up fairly early on because they found it dull. If you really try to explain this game, all there is to do is buy and engineer ships. I still play it from time to time but I can easily see why it won't appeal to the majority of gamers.

Because its not "out of the box easy" many people will become immediately frustrated.

Most people I know would never say "it was too complicated for me to figure out". Really they just aren't interested enough to figure it out. But they would just say they didn't like it, not their style of game.

But other completely legit reasons for people not liking it are:

- Its a video game (many people just don't like video games)
- Sci-fi game with ships & lasers (wrong genre)
- It requires big investment of time (unlike many games you just pickup and play)
- Internet says its got a steep learning curve... scares people away.
- Internet suggestion you should have amazing hardware to play. VR, HOTAS, etc.
- First impression when new player starts: clunky menus that kinda suck.

To be honest, ED is one of the easiest games I've ever played. It's just that the systems are very convoluted. But it's very easy to play.

I don't see zombie-shooting, emote-dancing, football-kicking types enjoying Elite. But that's OK with me. Elite's not everyone's cuppa. But we know. So, maybe squadron up?

But if you can convince your mates to join you, perhaps start them off with some multi-crew in your biggest ship that has a fighter bay? Let them pew pew with little to no downside to them as they get a taste of the action and also what kind of ship(s) they could have if they put in the time. If that doesn't hook them, I don't know what will.

Thats how i got my 2 friends to play ED.. But then my workplace decided that we're gonna do 12h shifts so playtime took big hit.

I always heard it stated as "A true friend doesn't ask questions, they just grab an extra shovel".

Same same either way. Good Missouri folk stick together. :D

Yes we do. Nobody can stand being around Ozark hicks except other Ozark hicks, and we like it that way.

I have three friends who are roughly my age.

One of them I have a crush on.

None of them play Elite.

All of them enjoy dank memes.

takes forever to do stuff in ed, need patience. flying places, docking etc. i mean i hate how the countdown says 6 seconds left for like 1 minute, if you go slightly faster it overshoots. its really annoying slow and just butthurtingly awful. if you forget something somewherer it takes half hour to go back, dock get it and launch again.

THat's because Elite is different - There is no actual content to do, you ferry goods and passengers, you mine and kill ships. There is no story, and it takes a lot of time to get from sidewinder to something decent.
I understand your friends - they want loot, they want the RPG experience: Explore - Loot - spend - improve - repeat. Destiny has that. Elite only to some extent. I understand your friends, mine are the same, they want something to do, and not just repeat the same thing over and over and over again. Load cargo, fly to B, dock, unload, repeat.
