My Journey into the place of fear.

Things have been quiet aboard the Aisling's Promise the last few days. Of course, quiet is entirely situational. It's actually been quite busy with mining ships passing back and forth, spending time with other explorers out here on the southern rim who just needed a pit stop to refuel and re-arm and of course; deciding the next leg of our journey out here. My proposed route takes us to the very edge of known space, at least as well as I could find, there may be more out there! That being said, for now, we have plotted twelve max range jumps for the Promise. We have close to six thousand tonnes of tritium on board thanks to our mining efforts and that should be enough to get us out there and back if by some chance we can't find any to mine out on the fringe. I have included a map in this log of the proposed route. The nav computer suggests this will take four hours, it clearly doesn't know how curious I can get on long journeys!

The journey to the edge of the galaxy goes well, though I have not ventured too far from the carrier this evening as I am feeling drained from the build-up to the run. I have however taken some time to check nearby systems as the capital frameshift drives require some cooldown time after each jump. Of note in today's scouting is a pair of binary moons orbiting a smaller ringed Ice world. once again I am moved by the cosmic forces at work out here. There is barely two thousand Km between these moons and yet they orbit each other and their parent perfectly.

The jumps have been slow. The nav computer saying four hours had not factored in the human element. Crossing the path of fear was one thing, that route was uncertain, it was exciting. The path was unclear, there were no certainties on that crossing; but out here... on the fringe of known space. It's just .. nothing. I have yet to find any systems with more than just stars. The space outside the canopy is black and empty... I am reminded of that old saying :

"When you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you"

I think its right. I feel an unease out here. like. a growing panic rising in the back of my mind, I'm sure I'm not the only one. The crew of the Promise has been talking in hushed tones, almost like they fear they will wake something from beyond the rim. Still; we came out here to see the edge of the galaxy. I don't intend to let a little paranoia stop us!

We made it! It's hard to put into words the excitement of being at the edge of the galaxy. The last few jumps were hard on the crew but it was worth it. To stand on the edge of the unknown, to gaze into the dark abyss of inter-galactic space; it's breathtaking. It is also made all the more palatable by the DSSA carrier "Explorer's Bar and Grill" she was a pleasant surprise for many of us.

I will admit. there is a part of me that is saddened that we were not the first out here, first to see the edge of the universe... but, that is tempered by the knowledge that we aren't alone out here. The DSSA fleet is an amazing achievement by humanity and my gratitude goes out to the many thousands of crew that are stationed in deep space. they have a hard few years ahead of them.

For us, we will be heading back soon, our journey first will take us back to our refueling spot in EOCS AIHM PR-F B11-0, from there we will be crossing the "Path of fear" again. There are a few spots on the way home that I want to check out before we hit the bubble and the crew gets their well-earned shore leave. I will update the log more once I know where we are heading

Its a strange thought knowing that all of humanities history, advancements, wars, and triumphs are visible through the view screen of my very small ship in a very large universe.

Making best speed the Promise has arrived back at EOCS AIHM RR-F B11-0 to begin refueling. While the crew rests from our trip I have plotted our return course.

• The first waypoint will take us to DRYO AEWSY LB-V C16-0 in Kepler's Crest, the last place to get fuel before we re-enter the "Path of fear".
• The second waypoint is across the "Path of fear" in JONGUA CM-D D12-0.
• The third waypoint will take us across the Sanguineous Rim to PHUA AIHM AT-Y B28-0 where we know there is another tritium hotspot for refueling.
• The fourth waypoint is HEN 2-23 in the outer Orion Spur. This is a slight detour but one I wish to make to see the system there.
• The fifth and final waypoint will take us to Jackson's Lighthouse on the edge of the bubble where we will re-acquire an uplink to the market network to find a local refueling station.
