20 years ago, this would be categorized as a casual game. It is a complete game loop, clearly designed to be exactly what it is. Intentionally to cater to all levels of players. Just as many licensed IP is intended to do. I’ve no doubt Fronteer has stronger ideas than any suggested in this forum but in the end (it’s been a year now), it did check all the boxes for the business and it really is a pleasure to look at.
But then there is us, the vocal minority, the folks that want the full experience of what a park sim in, loaded with the expectations of Frontiers previous works. But the reality is it’s just not going to come. This isn’t that game and if they wanted this game to have any chance of appealing to the proper theme park audience then we’d at least have mod support.
It’s ironic really, they nailed what they intended to do, filling all criteria from the publisher and ip holder (they don’t want to read “it’s too hard” in the feedback). But in reality, despite the potential, this doesn’t check the boxes of a gamers game, and we can only hope they worked out a deal that allows them more freedom in the next one.
But we’ll see. This game sold very well, hit the audience they were after, and if you turn off your brain it’s something to relax with to kill time. But the game loop is so solid there really isn’t room to change its core, and that’s really what would need to happen to flush it out to be a proper theme park game.
