Ship Builds & Load Outs My Python cheap(ish) combat load out :)

After trying various combos within my limited budget, only got Python few days ago, this is my fave so far :)

~
  • Shield Cell Bank, I have 4, replaced cargo units with them, 5Bx2 and two lesser ones.
Only keep 1 on at a time!
When one runs out, I switch that one OFF in the Module screen, turn on another one, so they last a fair while in any combat area.
note the big power and heat cost of using more than 1 shield cell bank, hence, turn on/off 1 at a time
    ~
  • Shield Booster A0 x2, so greatly enhances the basic shield I have (417 Mj vs 300 Mj without them).
    ~
  • Gimballed Large Pulse Lasers x2, in upper mounts.
I've tried Large pulse turrets but something isn't right they don't do nearly the damage they should be doing considering how much arc of fire they have, and thus time on target they SHOULD have! :S
Turrets there should rake the hell out of enemies, sigh.
So sticking with gimballed Large Pulse ones, cheap, economical with energy
    ~
  • Kill Warrant Scanner C, all those bounties add up!
    ~
  • Power Distributor 7C, that makes a hell of a difference to how often you can fire over the basic unit.
    ~
  • Cannon medium x2 gimballed on upper medium mounts
Cannon large on under large mount. Expensive but worth it, damage potential is enormous!
the cannons are very low energy and heat so I can fire the pulse lasers a lot
and versus the power plant on large ships, they blow the HELL out of them fast, or when in a furball fight with several smaller opponents and need to kill one quick
    ~
  • Sensors D, lighter weight, can't afford better as yet, wow they are expensive!
Folk say they don't affect turrets, but do they affect distance to spot Silent Running pirates who like to sneak up on you at RES sites?
    ~
  • Frame Shift Drive 5B, so I can get places :p
    ~
  • Fuel Scoop A1 with current FSD and this you can travel very far :)
    ~
  • Point Defence on top, largest area of coverage, and often fight enemies face on, reversing so it's best spot for it to take out mines and missiles.
    ~
  • Cargo racks, 64 ton, x2, for whenever I decide to do cargo as finding 64 tonners is less common.
~
~

I've tried all but one weapon as a turrets and that was much slower at killing, which makes no sense, sigh.
But with decent thrusters you can manoeuvre enough to keep most enemies in front, of use flight assist off as need
~
I run two weapon groups, the first I use on normal, small ships and ot use the KWS first before a kill
and #2 for doing big ships, a Combat zone or a nasty fight
~
#1 Large gimballed Pulse lasers and Kill Warrant Scanner, as my main set.
I can use this to kill most smaller ships easy and to start with use the KWS to get the full bounty before opening fire if I can.
~
#2 the Pulse lasers (prime mouse button) and cannons (secondary mouse)
since they are all gimballed, this absolutely destroys Python, Dropship and Anaconda power plants! ;)
~
With 4 shield Cell banks, and 3 cannons, you have plenty of ammunition to last a good long time in an RES or Combat Zone :)
~
Ideally I'd prefer to have the two large lasers on top as turrets but until they do something about turrets I'll leave 'em off for now, but if you only have basic thrusters and lack flight assist off skills, large pulse lasers do help, just not as much as they should.
~
at present, with the fuel scoop, FSD set to #3 in Module setup, I have plenty of energy to spare yet.
~
When I get more money I'll upgrade the shield, powerplant, thusters in that order I think.
better thrusters make a hell of a difference in getting guns on target!
I found it wasn't worth while reducing pips in Engines as that was reducing manoeuvrability.
I'd like the idea of a "lead sled" and rely on turrets to rake enemies by clever positioning but that doesn't work nearly as good as swinging to keep enemy in gun sights
~
Ideally I'd want something like 2x medium beam lasers at front for most work, 2x large pulse lasers on top IF turrets worked right, and Large plasma accelerator underneath
~
if doing a Combat Zone only, replace the Kill warrant scanner with another Shield Booster
~
anyway, with this it's fun and works veyr well :)

Thanks for posting. I'm currently trading in a T7 and am up to about 60m credits in assets.

The T7 is pretty uninspiring to fly so I'm counting the days until I can afford at least a moderately well-specced Python. Looks like I'm not too far away now :)

My pleasure:)
that one is 67 million, BUT, even with 96% insurance it's iirc, 2.5 million insurance
so you want at least 5 million above and beyond for insurance, just in case! make it 10 million if you have only 95% insurance I think

it's a great ship and vastly more fun than a T7 ;)
