My Rift just broke!

And right on cue, look what just arrived ...

I'm happy!

Although, that said, I've heard of small print but this is ridiculous!

Unfortunately the nightmares of outsourced support are present in camp Vive too... Which I sadly know first hand. So both big players have their problems. It is unwise to decide only on this basis. After the Summer of Rift promo is over, both will again compete in price and on more affordable levels. But still, this is first gen bleeding edge tech without (yet) much support in software titles, it is amazing, but you have to understand what you're buying.

This is good to hear (well sort of .. ) as it means we "Rifters" aren't being given too short shrift.

Anyway there are a few good threads in the VR discussion section of this forum that have helped me resolve my issues with the 'Rift'

Also there is a trouble shooting guide threads in the Oculus' own forums, but I found that harder to find specific detailed information.

So bypassing the tech support at least in the short term can help.

If you still have problems after this then, as others have said here, returning the product to supplier and either getting a replacement or your money back is the route.

Incorrect. The law states quite clearly (laws that Alec would be covered by, other places may be different) that he would be entitled to a replacement.

Please point me to the source of this? I've also had to take companies to court, and have won, hence I know that certainly in the UK, you are not entitled to an automatic replacement after six months.

I just wanted to say ... after a couple of weeks of being without a fully functioning headset ...

I LOVE MY RIFT!

It's still just so Soooo amazing. I spent about an hour last night flying around in Aircar (whose sound didn't work in external headphones so I parked it until now). It's really just a tech demo but if you rate it alongside things like Dreamdeck or Showdown then it's absolutely stunning. Imagine being able to drive an airtaxi around a huge Blade-Runner-esque city in the rain, it's like that. I really hope it gets developed into a full game because it's brilliantly done.

Edit: here's some video ...
