My Setup and Questions

I am using :-
4070ti
Ryzen 7 5800X3D
32 ram
M.2 drives.
And a Quest 2.

In VR I get a lot of flashing/flickering shadows and flickering edges.
Sometimes the whole of my FC flashes or the whole front of a station will flash.
This is ontop of all the flickering shadows and bad AA edges that is normal in Elite.

Will Supersample increases reduce the Station and FC Flashing ?
I use "Elite dangerous Profilier" so which would be better ?
Increasing Supersample or increaseing HMD image Quality ?
I cant increase both the fps drops too far to be playable.

There’s nothing you can do about the flickering shadows - it’s an issue we’ve had in VR since October 2022 and needs a fix from the devs.

As for the aliasing on edges, that is also a long time problem with the game. I run a similar system to yours (differing with an i7 11700 & Quest 3) and looking at your settings mine are slightly different with SS 1.0 + HMDQ 1.25, no upscaling, AO Off, 72fps. The game still shimmers but until the game has anti-aliasing that works (or an RTX 6090 allows us to run SS 2.0 + HMDQ 2.00 😁) it’s what I’m sticking with.

My setup is similar to yours, but it's a laptop..
4070
Ryzen 7 7840HS
64GB Ram
Quest 2

Are you using Virtual Desktop? If not, I strongly recommend you get it! I run my VD on high, with supersampling turned off in game. Instead use the Snapdragon Super resolution or whatever it's called in VD, it really helps. Also, I'm running the OpenXR dll files, though I've been using them so long I've forgotten why lol. Try Virtual Desktop high or ultra settings, with no SS, only FXAA, see what that gets you. Next time I play in VR, I'll make note of my settings and post back here, it's been a while since I've actually adjusted anything because I finally found the sweet spot.

Some of those settings look quite high for your system to me, Im wondering if your system is struggling to keep up and causing more artifacts than normal. I run a 4090 with the same processor and I have Ambient Occlusion off, shadows on high, material quality on high.
