I waited for this game for years like a lot of you. In the meantime, I played Oolite, trying to recapture those old Elite memories.
As soon as I heard about E : D, I became a kickstarter backer and then played all through the beta and gamma stages moderately successfully. I earned money all the time by trading only, and enough in gamma to buy a Cobra. I then wasted a lot of money just flying about, thinking there would be a wipe at launch. With the result then when E : D 1.0.0.0 launched, I only had a few credits left. When I tried to downsize ships to get a Hauler and a load of credits, for some reason my Cobra was worth 0 credits (can someone explain that?) and I could not buy the Hauler. I had to sell my docking computer with the result that a couple of docking "accidents" later, I have about 1000 credits only. I also appear to be stuck in a system with no decent trade routes within it and any profit I can make trading out of the system doesn't even pay for the fuel I use. I am bitterly disappointed at my lack of success. I would have been perfectly happy to have continued grossing credits at the same slow rate I did in beta and gamma but somehow I have lost it and kind of just don't get the game any more. Along the way, I have also had to pay a couple of 800-900 credit bounties and the more annoying thing about those is that I have no idea why I was charged them.
Yes - I could sell the Eagle I got for investing in E : D for 40,000 credits or so but I don't really want to. It looks as though actually that is my only way out and I will have to if I want to carry on playing - but I am just going to put the game away and maybe come back some time in the New Year. Had I not been a backer, but had just bought the game after the launch, then I would not even have the sell-the-Eagle option and would have quite soon run out of money altogether.
I realise this is a bit of a whinge but I would appreciate any comments (apart from "Tough luck" and "Suck it up"!).
