My ship is worth nothing, I have no money. End of the story.

I waited for this game for years like a lot of you. In the meantime, I played Oolite, trying to recapture those old Elite memories.

As soon as I heard about E : D, I became a kickstarter backer and then played all through the beta and gamma stages moderately successfully. I earned money all the time by trading only, and enough in gamma to buy a Cobra. I then wasted a lot of money just flying about, thinking there would be a wipe at launch. With the result then when E : D 1.0.0.0 launched, I only had a few credits left. When I tried to downsize ships to get a Hauler and a load of credits, for some reason my Cobra was worth 0 credits (can someone explain that?) and I could not buy the Hauler. I had to sell my docking computer with the result that a couple of docking "accidents" later, I have about 1000 credits only. I also appear to be stuck in a system with no decent trade routes within it and any profit I can make trading out of the system doesn't even pay for the fuel I use. I am bitterly disappointed at my lack of success. I would have been perfectly happy to have continued grossing credits at the same slow rate I did in beta and gamma but somehow I have lost it and kind of just don't get the game any more. Along the way, I have also had to pay a couple of 800-900 credit bounties and the more annoying thing about those is that I have no idea why I was charged them.

Yes - I could sell the Eagle I got for investing in E : D for 40,000 credits or so but I don't really want to. It looks as though actually that is my only way out and I will have to if I want to carry on playing - but I am just going to put the game away and maybe come back some time in the New Year. Had I not been a backer, but had just bought the game after the launch, then I would not even have the sell-the-Eagle option and would have quite soon run out of money altogether.

I realise this is a bit of a whinge but I would appreciate any comments (apart from "Tough luck" and "Suck it up"!).

So you expected a wipe. Why don't you do a manual wipe yourself and then you will be where you expected to be anyway? Sorted.

If it was the cobra from the backer reward it has no value, only the eagle can be sold for profit.

Sounds awesome actually......Just like real life as intended......You may have to sell your house to keep your business running...or close down... That type of thing..
Well the get out clause is to keep trying or delete your save and start again.....we are not all successful first time :)

Start again with one of your founder starts? I chose the cobra + 40k one. And practice docking maybe? No one needs a docking computer. Certainly not in a cobra.

1) Why pay for fuel? Fit a fuel scoop, totally worth it.

2) You had room for a docking computer and not a fuel scoop? :O Priorities!

3) Do missions to get more money until you can move onto other things. Raise your rep with a faction. Try and stick to doing missions for the same factions to keep friendly with them and avoid hurting your reputation with them by doing missions for their enemies. This way you should soon be offered better missions.

4) Fly safe commander.

Not all the cards you are dealt with will be a winning hand, I'd take this as a challenge and come out fighting until you drop or are a winner again. This is what Elite is all about, do you have the warriors heart to fight on and beat the odds?! :D

Are there no bulletin board missions available? If you're in a stagnant location trade-wise, missions are the answer until you get a little nest-egg. Then you can buy a fuel scoop and offset a lot of running costs.

USS. Shoot stuff. 5-6k credits on something not too deadly. Go back to station and take mission or two. Maybe another 5-6k.

then use the cash to trade and pay for fuel.
Job done.

Yeah, I'm sorry to sound like a but if you need a docking comp in an Cobra you need to give up playing online for a while, reset your save, hit solo play and practice docking cause I can assure you if you can't dock your Cobra then when you make it to an anaconda or lakon your up the creek without a proverbial paddle.

I was in a similar position prior to release. I made some silly decisions and ended up with a half upgraded cobra and no money with little prospect of getting more.
I bit the bullet and cleared my save and I'm now back in my freagle having fun again.

I'd recommend doing similar, just start again and try doing different things.
Good luck CMDR, see you in the black

Start the game again using your best kickstarter option.

There is no problem really, and you should consider to sell the eagle for extra cash to get you on your feet, you can always buy enouther one again at a later date.

wipe your save, sell your eagle (40k is a huge help at the start of the game and will become peanuts to you within a few hours), learn to dock efficiently, get rid of docking computer (it's like stabilizer wheels for your bike), get fuel scoop and learn how to circle stars while not overheating to scoop.

You had a bad start, we all do. Instead of whinging about it like you've admitted, get back on the horse! See you out there :)

If you have nothing except a cobra and your cobra is a starting option then clear save your game. Start again with your cobra and a few credits. Everyone else has said the rest.

Good luck.

Same as above dude. You thought there was going to be a wipe, then just wipe. You made lots of mistakes and did stuff in gamma, you now know what not to do. If your really struggling with docking, then choose the sidey option and just practice it till you can do it drunk of your a$£e and blindfolded then wipe and start again.
You can do it and you will be glad you did, go on!

Look forward to seeing you out there CMDR!

P.S Oh and remember this game is not a race, there is no end game as such so you can take as much time as you like, as long as your enjoying it.

If you still have the ship I don't see why you can't just do a few missions to get credits and buy a new one???

Yep what they said, the worthless cobra was patched in the same as the free sidewinder to prevent exploits.
Best option is to start again as you have nothing to lose and you probably have horrible rep with everyone due to earlier rep bugs.
Pick the explorer cobra if you have it, you can't sell it but its a very well equipped ship. Do some bulletin board missions and scan some systems near by to sell for cash.
Once you have a nice little nest egg you can start trading again, just be careful to research prices in stations before running loads.
