My ship just randomly exploded

I started the game, went into open play as usual, and as the game screen appeared my ship was exploding. There wasn't even a brief window of control, I just loaded into an exploding ship.

I'm sure there's some explanation, but I was hoping someone could tell me why this happened.

I resumed the game in a resource extraction point that I was in when I closed the game before, if that matters.

Many thanks.

There have been reported incidents of ships in RES respawning in an asteroid.

Log a support ticket - you may get your rebuy costs reimbursed.

Ahh, not the first time Ive seen a post from someone saying ship sploded and then reading further, logged out in a RES.
Asteroids move about, plus each RES is procedurally generated, its an instance.
The rocks arent in the same places etc when its created.
I'd ticket it and maybe you will get reimbursed.
I wouldnt log out in or near a RES again though.

I had the same yesterday. :D 4M insurance, but not a big deal in my case.

Just speculation on my part, but they may be doing something against those combat loggers, if this is always the case in RES or in some combat zones - that would be pretty good (except that I have not seen it announced).

edit: Seeing other responses, sadly this does not seem to be the case.

My first guess would be an asteroid or big ship spawned right at the same location (don't know if this is possible in ED). I would write a support ticket.

Why should he ticket it? It's not a bug, it's a dangerous place to park your ship.
Fly 20KM away from the field of debris, then log off, or SC 100KM away.

Logging out amongst thousands of rotating and moving solid objects does not sound like a bug to me either, more like an incredibly bad idea.
Sorry OP, ticket it anyway, you might get lucky.

EUS: For the record, I always do fly my ship quite some way out of the asteroids before I save and quit, simply because I prefer the view and the approach when I return.

Right. Many thanks for the replies; it seems likely that I was just very unlucky then. I'll raise a ticket and see what happens.

I've raised a ticket now; thanks all for your help.

Okie dokie, the part where you flew out of the debris field before you logged out wasn't clear in the original post.

I hope you have more luck with your ticket than I've had with mine.

I've 3 tickets from the start of the year which still haven't been even acknowledged, much less replied to or dealt with in any meaningful way.

:(

FWIW I bumped one of my tickets a day or so ago and it was dealt with this morning.

I know it took a while to get around to, but I am still grateful to Frontier Support (In this case Ashley) for the help received.

You do realise everything in the game 'moves' ... You may have been outside the belt when you logged out, but if you smack on the orbital path, then yeah you are going to spawn inside something at some point.

Thats not really a bug ... just pilot error .. For the record I never log out in space, or if I do its in space far and away frmo anything that might smack in to you.

NEVER leave game and come back in an RES. I know several players this has happened to. You respawned in an asteroid. Live and learn son.

Don't log out anywhere where you might log back next to an object including asteroid fields, inside a station undocked, near a station or in a combat zone.

Logging out doesn't pause the game. Stations and ships move while you are logged out of game and asteroid fields are not always generated the same.

I find myself conflicted on this particular issue.

Granted I can see the logic of not deliberately logging out in such a location, because of all the reasons suggested...

....but what about disconnections.

Would it not be reasonable to expect some very small quantity of invulnerability when spawning.

Otherwise a random disconnection whilst inside said field is a virtual death sentence, despite not having done anything wrong.

Perhaps balance this with a small period of disabled weapons / jump drive.

Just a thought.
