My suggestions for exhibit sizes

I talked to someone on discord who knows more about the keeping of exhibit species than I do so I asked him to give his thoughts on what would be better sizes for all the exhibit species in PZ

The three numbers are length, width, and height. Ideally, for the rectangular shaped exhibits, you can change which section is longer or taller since some animals need verticality.

I also added Nile monitors with the new 4x4x8 size

I wonder what make Nile monitors habitat while in most zoos in real-life, they're more like exhibit living in not so big glass enclosure.

I totally agree with you, I wish we could build the vivariums ourselves, like the buildings, with specific walls and a grid. It would also be cool to have this system for aviaries!

I would add the Cuvier's dwarf caiman to the 8x4x4 category, as they are not only smaller than Nile monitors, but also less space intensive compared to the "roamy" monitors who like to pace their living space a lot, similar to most tortoises.

I've recently been thinking about a few different additions and even changes to exhibits that probably wouldn't be that hard to implement, as long as everyone (the players and Frontier) are on board with the ideas. - One of them being larger exhibits indeed, as people have been talking about that, and I simply agree there should be one for certain animals and more variation/options. - I would also agree on the size mentioned if that's what would be "accurate". Though, to be honest, I didn't think of the height and also don't know if that would be entirely doable or convenient for this game. I mean, I just didn't bother thinking about height as I don't think it's necessary to go that "far", but if they can that could be cool.

In any case, I also have some other ideas that add to this, at least exhibits in general, and I feel like it would be a good opportunity for like an "exhibit update" or something along that line at some point, as there's a bit more to it than just adding a larger and/or customizable exhibit. - I don't even know if exhibits were there from the start or already a content-update between launch and today, I'm still a recent player, but something feels off or unfinished about them, for which I have pretty neat ideas.
Shall I just write up a separate post to put in the Suggestions here?... I mean, I will anyway, but just saying, I don't want to like "hijack" this thread or anything.

Just do it :)

Maybe do it like this: Add vivariums of different sizes as building props. It would of course be noce if you could decorate those vivariums yourselve maybe in some kind of special editor, but i don't think the devs would like that very much. So just have a couple preset setups for the different enviroments just like you have now. But by making them a building prop we could incorporate them into custom builds and make them look just gorgous.

Also, while we are at it, the very same system could easily be used to add aquariums as well as palidariums with the corresponding small animals.

About the need for smaller exhibits, it's a pity because we have those wall pieces with the window space (designed for shops), and we have them for every building style, and they would fit so nicely a small terrarium (something like the 2x1 mentioned in the OP) for the bugs we have in the game.

Definitely in full support of different exhibit sizes.

I love this idea! It's not very realistic and I doubt it'll happen but... Giving us a special "tool" to develop and design custom exhibits would be super fun. Customizing anchor points using a "hit box" style system and giving us a set of exhibit-sized plants, props, etc. I would love that for that to be a thing!

Definitely not something that's feasible, at least as far as my limited knowledge tells me. But... I love the idea.

It's sounds like a planet zoo 2 kind of idea. It I would love it for that.

Bumping this thread as, in my opinion, this is the big thing we as a community should be campaigning for after we got the 256 species limit lifted.

This would give the terrarium animals such greater use in zoo building

Vivarium animals need to do more stuff, and the 4x4x4 meter exhibits are overkill for most species; it is far too huge for pretty much everything but the iguanas and the boid snakes.

While PZ initially had a much larger scale and items, most recent packs seem to focus on smaller items. The Tropical pack didn't even have most items as grid props and didn't include the new wood texture at a size larger than 2m. This makes me think smaller exhibits should also be possible at some point. I think it would be good to have the following sizes:

1m x 1m x 1m for all invertebrates.
2m x 2m x 2m for all invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles except snakes and iguanas.
4m x 4m x 4m for all exhibit species.

This is still well beyond the real zoo standards, but for the realism of the game it would already be a huge improvement. In addition, I think it would be time to finally have boxless exhibits.

I do not know if Frontier will ever make this to reality, but I wish. All of the exhibits are very big compared to real life. and it look very weird for small things like frogs or spiders. WE could also have a smaller variant, maybe like half of it.

Oh, a lot of these exhibits need to be way smaller

In fact, exhibits that are too large can cause stress to some animals like tarantulas
