Hardware & Technical My Track IR Demonstration

Anyone who plays flight sims such as myself may be aware of the track ir headset that simulates head movement in game, mainly for inside cockpits. Well i have a track ir and a thrustmaster Hotas control stick as modelled on the F16's real flight stick and thrust panel. Anyhow I just made a 15 minute video to demonstrate what it can do by making 2 videos i stuck them together to make one long video. The first part is me explaining the Track IR in free falcon. the 2nd video is just me doing some low flying and a dogfight in Lock on. Enjoy

Falcon 4 renewed!

That's very impressive archamedes. That would be very handy indeed if you had a multi monitor setup. Also watching your video encouraged me to investigate what the heck "Free Falcon" was and found out it was a community based update to Falcon 4!

This was always one of my favorite flight sims so going to apply this update. The forum and download links are to be found here for anyone that is interested

Also looking through that forum, I found another community based add-on called Open Falcon, so here is a link to that forum too http://www.f4support.com/forums/index.php

Yes been playing free falcon for the last 4 years, they update like every month, i sometimes think its like an old man on life support who just isnt allowed to die but you would not believe the amount of REALLY hard work and effort that has gone into free falcon to get it to this stage.

It is also important to note free falcon is not some game you can just jump into and play, because its not an arcade or easy game to learn. there is an almost vertical learning curve you need to get passed and is made to be as realistic as flying a real f16, so you need to be up on your instruments and hsd panels, even to the point where you even have to set up the oxygen pressure for your mask. however you do have the option to load in ramp start (not recommend for beginners) taxi (most of the plane is switched on and ready to go) or Take off. It takes about 15 minutes to do a ramp start and god help you if you get into a fight and you forgot to activate the master arm switch or something like that.

I play free falcon as a 3 way lan link up with my cousin and my mate. We make a regular weekend of it, with no women, beer and take away. below is a few pics of our setup we have.

we all have track ir headsets, Thrustmaster Hotas control sticks, and driving pedals that work the plane rudder. I used to play with just a saitek joystick but when i got all this It really made the game for me, i could never go back now, the gadgets made such a difference

Well, I am going to try both "Open" & "Free" although I admit it has been a few years since I played Falcon 4, but yes you are correct, even in it's standard form it's a hardcore flightsim, so looks like a lot of reading for me then :)

Yes a great setup you have there ..............oh, wait a minute! No girls allowed!?!

girls get in the way and want to talk about kelly down the road who just had a kid with steve, but isnt sure if steve is the dad and always need you to help them get something out the garage. No, on our epic weekends we boot the women out so there are no distractions, stock up on tennents super (my fav tipple) and whiskey, load up the pcs and have one hell of an awesome gaming session on both free falcon and arma 2, up until 3am and back on at 9am in the morning friday, saturday and sunday. However both my cousin and my mate both live in Birmingham and i live in Stevenage hertfordshire So i take the drive up there with all my kit.

Drinking & Flying

Tennent Supers? My goodness, thats a very strong lager indeed! AND whiskey!!
I am surprised you can fly at all drinking those :D I always end up crashing my B377 Stratocrusier in FS9 if I drink anymore than a few glasses of Lambrini

lol the last weekend we met up i downed 4 cans of tennents plus 5 shots of jim, By 10.30 My mate took a picture of me fast asleep while both hands were clutching on the hotas stick and thrust, while keeping in tight formation at level flight, then i somehow managed to wake up and dodge 6 similtanious sam launches, complete a full ccip bombing run on an enemy base, then take out a mig with the cannon alone, return home, land then pass out for the rest of the night. My mate has fraps video footage of that along with audio of him telling me to wake up because i had been painted by sams. I tell you if that was done a hundred times over it would never have gone down the same way again
