my vr experience with deepoon e2 - chinese dk2 clone - vr for £201

When I installed DPNAssistant 1.4 the first time it worked with the latest (1.6) Oculus App. After reinstalling the DPNAssistant I couldn't get it working. Oh and I disabled the option in Antivir "Block registry modifications", so the registry can be changed. It has something to do with the registry.

I wasn't afk while installing software. I confirmed every single driver request!

I have 3 different USB types: USB 3.0 (blue), USB 2.0 (black) and USB ?? (red) on my MSI Z97 Gaming 5.

When you put the Deepoon into DK2 mode, you get that DP Assistant "error" where it says it's not connected (or at least I do) and the light is red, but it still works for me when I start Oculus Home (worked with 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and I just tested 1.6 last night).

The only way I can get the light to go blue is by disabling the Oculus runtime and then putting the Deepoon into either DK1 mode or native Deepoon. Even with Oculus runtime disabled, if I put it into DK2 mode, the light goes red and DPA (1.2, 1.3, 1.32 and 1.4) stops recognizing it.

You don't even need DPA installed for it to work, only if you want to switch modes. I still have DPA installed though, since I need to go into DK1 mode to play Skyrim.

YMMV

1. Optional: Manually create a restore point before installing anything.

2. Install the latest DPNAssistant (1.3 for stable and 1.4 for beta version)from here. Make sure you don't go afk and confirm all driver installations during the installation process.

3. Install the Oculus 0.8 Runtime (downloadable here: https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/). Make sure you don't go afk and confirm all driver installations during the installation process.

4. Start the Oculus Configuration tool, then connect the Deepoon E2. The Oculus Configuration tool should now show "Oculus DK2 connected, no tracker attached".

5. Start MozVR.

In case this doesn't work for you for whatever reason, restore your system using the restore point you hopefully created in step 1.
Then proceed like this:

1. Repeat 1. and 2. as above

2. Install the latest Oculus Software. Make sure you don't go afk and confirm all driver installations during the installation process and plug in your E2 when the Oculus Software prompts you to connect the HMD. The "Headset USB" and "Headset HDMI" options should show a green "OK". Then you can skip the rest, as you probably don't have any other Oculus equipment.

3. Install the Oculus Runtime Switcher.

4. Install the Oculus 0.8 Runtime. Change the installation folder to "[drive letter]:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus_0800".

5. Check the cmd-files from the Runtime Switcher and make sure the right folder paths are in the needed ones (1.3 cmd file is for latest Oculus Software, 0.8 cmd file is for switch to 0.8 runtime).

6. Start the Runtime Switcher and click on the "0.8"-Button. After a few cmd-windows opening and closing again, you hopefully won't receive any error messages and the 0.8 Oculus Configuration Tool will open automatically.

7. Plug in your E2 again and start MozVR, now it should really work ^^

Thank you so much For your reply !
I installed the oculus runtime 0.8 when i start it, it says Service crashed then when i installed the Oculus setup it says "cant reach runtime server". Please Help. I have 2 Deepoon E2

Ah, yes, had that too. For me, this was because the paths given in the 0.8 cmd-file from the Runtime Switcher didn't have the correct paths. If you are using it too, you should take a look at it. If you installed the newest Oculus Software to standard directory and Oculus 0.8 Runtime to "[drive letter]:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus_0800", the files' contents should look like this:
Code:
taskkill /f /im OculusConfigUtil.exetaskkill /f /im OVRServer_x64.exe
net stop OVRService
ren "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OculusAppFramework.dll" "temp_OculusAppFramework.dll"
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" on
sc delete OVRService
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Service\OVRServiceLauncher.exe" -install -start
start "" "C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe"
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Service\OVRServer_x64.exe" -install -start

If you aren't using the Runtime Switcher, but only have the 0.8 runtime installed, you should go to the directory you installed it into. There, you right click the folder while holding the Shift key. In the list of options there should now be the option "Open command window here" (or something similar, translating from german here). In the command window that opens now (after opening and closing the Oculus Configuration Tool once), you should try typing the following commands (please edit the paths as necessary, can't check those for you):
Code:
taskkill /f /im OculusConfigUtil.exe
taskkill /f /im OVRServer_x64.exe
net stop OVRService
ren "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OculusAppFramework.dll" "temp_OculusAppFramework.dll"
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" on
sc delete OVRService
This part might not have been the important one, feel free to skip it if you believe you don't need it, it's basically just copied from what the Runtime Switcher does in order to disable the runtime at that moment, it might just work out fine if you skip it in your case, as you aren't switching runtimes ;)
But now comes the important part. Please run every single of these commands one by one and make sure they aren't returning errors!
Code:
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Service\OVRServiceLauncher.exe" -install

"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Service\OVRServiceLauncher.exe" -start

"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe" "C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Service\OVRServer_x64.exe" -install

"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe" "C:\program files (x86)\Oculus_0800\Service\OVRServer_x64.exe" -start

hey guys, I got a Deepoon E2, after lots of work I made it to work as a DK2, SteamVR worked I tried Boogeyman demo (you should try it in VR, a game that will make you jump!)
I Have a question:
what is the difference between the Rift Store app (1.12 GB) and the Oculus Runtime, can I use them both at the same time? and what about the SDK (latest one is SDK 1.6)
and can I use VorpX with the Deepoon E2? (as a DK2)

Ok so I got VorpX and I can confirm that it works on Deepoon E2 :D
Just make sure it is set as a DK2 and VorpX will do the rest! You need to change some settings like FOV (very important) and resolution etc...

1. The Oculus Store App integrates the newest Oculus runtime automatically. It's the only way to get a 1.x runtime, as those aren't downloadable seperately. Oculus Runtimes can only be downloaded as standalone version for pre-1.0.

2. You can't have two runtime versions running at the same time, but with the help of the Oculus Runtime Switcher, you can switch between them on a running system (link was posted by me a few posts ago, just scroll a bit) ;)

3. SDK stands for "Software Developement Kit", which should be self-explaining. As far as I know, it's only good for developing software for the Rift, and doesn't include the runtime it was released for. So I doubt you would need it.

4. According to several other users on this thread, yes, you can use VorpX, but you might have to install a specific Oculus Runtime and/or a specific version of VorpX to get it to work.

...ok
How did u guys get vorpx to work with Deepoon e2 i try it meni times with Skyrim and Alien Isolation.

When i start the game with vorpx my PC crash every time!

make sure you have installed the Oculus Store, which is needed so the Deepoon works as a DK2
when you start VorpX (or any other VR app like SteamVR, etc...) Oculus store will open
oh and make sure to tick "Unknown Sources" in the Oculus Store in Settings -> General

Hi I do not speak English very well sorry

Hello guys :)

First of all thank everyone in this topic, helped me out with alot of questions :)

Second of all i wanted to tell this for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time but was to lazy to create acc here, so - If you failed installation of drivers (oculus, deepoon) just delite them from win unistaller toll AND go to win/system32 ,find all the oculus .dlls and DELETE them, also go to %appdata% and check it out, you will find an deepon and oculus folders, delite them :) Now just a matter of reboot and you can start installing drivers like a 1st time ;)

And the third

Im actually selling my deepoon :(

Money problems hit the pocket, have to say bye to this amazing peice of hardware :(

So for the info - device barely used( played some lucky tales and tryed mydreamswift for maybe 5 hours in total) , have original box cables papers ect

I live in france , so if you are buying from europe you will havw 1: fast delivery 2: you wont pay taxes for receiving

Price eur 199, shipping included :)

Im not so often at this forum, so the best way to contact me its mrdrone.me (a) gmail.com

Thanks for your time

Hello guys , im here to ask for help about how to install the deepoon e2 , i've tried installing deepoon assistant 1.5 and oculus runtime 0.8 beta . And i get the blue light , but all i get on the display is a white screen with vertical lines , when i try games i only see many colours but there are no forms only random dots of colours. I don't know what why its not working . I tried also uninstalling runtime 0.8 and installing the whole oculus setup. The program recognizes im plugging the usb but doesnt recognize the hdmi cable. I have to mention im using a vga to hdmi conversor for my monitor to graphics card , and at the same time im using a hdmi splitter to have two hdmis one for the vr headset and the other for the gpu. May this be the problem why im getting blurry images in the deepoon? any tutorial or correction to what i did would be welcome , thanks

I've experienced that using any [...] to HDMI converters for plugging in the Deepoon E2 doesn't work very well, mostly it won't even recognize I plugged the HDMI cable in.

So I strongly recommend using a HDMI port on your graphics card to plug in your VR headset. If you don't have any HDMI ports on your graphics card, DisplayPort to HDMI adapters should work too. If your graphics card has neither HDMI nor DP ports, your PC isn't VR-ready to begin with!

Hello guys, excuse me for my question but I bougth a deepoon about 5 days ago and I've been the last 2 entire days trying to configure it. I can see only the oculus home with their respective games and all ok, but I can't play games from steam, I want to play euro truck 2, so please help me with this. I have Win10 64, GTX970, I5 4560 and 8 RAM.

Oh and by the way, I've reading a lot of threads all across the web, but now you can only install oculus software in version 1.9, i don't know if this is the problem, i've tried with many runtimes, many combinations but always the same, i only play in oculus home but not in steam, also i can't install steamvr.

Please help this poor soul xD

So you can't

1. install SteamVR? What kind of error do you get?

2. start SteamVR after installation? This is what I'm having for a few weeks now, SteamVR just crashes immediately when starting it. Currently waiting for an answer from Steam Support.

3. get your Deepoon detected by SteamVR? But Oculus Home and the apps from the Oculus Store work fine? That would be the strangest of all.

Thanks DragoCubX for your help. I'll try to explain you my issues,

1. In steam I have the vr icon on the upper right corner, but when I press it appear a sub menu down which says something like I don't have any HMD connected.

2. In Oculus home I can download games and play them, but only there.

I've seen in another sites that the rift is detected by windows as another monitor, but in my case in the hardware configuration my deepoon is shown as "deepoon aplication assistant" or some like that, is that correct?

The true is that i bought this stuff firstly to play euro truck simulator 2, so I fell bad with all of this problems. Could you tell me step by step how do you do to play vr games that aren't from oculus store? i want to know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks again for your support and your time (Sorry for my english, but I speak spanish)
