My xbox is reporting an MTU of 1480

That's kind of a relief then, thanks. I do have a problem somewhere though, I'll fill in that detailed network support ticket thing when I can get the kids off Plants vs Zombies 2

:S
Clear as mud.
Data sent in lumps of 1492 bytes is fine. A lump of 1493 gives an error because it exceeds the MTU (see bold):

bongo@bongo-Aspire-E5-511:~$ ping -M do -s 1464 google.co.uk
PING google.co.uk (216.58.198.195) 1464(1492) bytes of data.
2 bytes from lhr26s03-in-f3.1e100.net (216.58.198.195): icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 (truncated)

bongo@bongo-Aspire-E5-511:~$ ping -M do -s 1465 google.co.uk
PING google.co.uk (216.58.213.67) 1465(1493) bytes of data.
ping: local error: Message too long, mtu=1492

In short: I'm getting constant transaction errors, sending me to the game main menu. Every few jumps; making exploring very difficult. And, seeing as I'm going to the Bubble nebula, Jaques and Sagittarius A* in a ship with a 19LY jump range, it can be frustrating to say the least.

MTU is not ping, or latency. A standard MTU is always around ~1500 for Ethernet (unless Jumbo Frames is enabled). It is just the packet size.

If you are having trouble with MTU is due to the network adapter or router configuration. MTU is not controlled at application level.

Aye, I couldn't get on on Wednesday because of the issues (DNS issues for me), nice to see our communications network can handle the heat...

100% packet loss (I'm with Plusnet fibre) and I can make a maximum of two jumps before getting dumped out of the game. It's unplayable.

Not sure if this is possible, But if you can get on your router can you set Max MTU packet size to 1450 ?
THis is for PC, Appreciate you cant change anything on Xbox ... (Dont think so anyway)

Hey Bongo - I had this issue last week with my BT Home Hub (also on Plusnet fibne) - constant transaction server errors. VERY frustrating.

Couple of things:

1. BT (and therefore its subsidiaries) are having some MAJOR network issues at the moment. Your issue may be related to this.
2. Have you tried a complete reset of the BT Home hub? (If that's what your using). If so, I discovered in a completely random Google search that sometimes this hub switches on a setting called 'Smart Setup'. Open the Edge browser on the XBOX and see if you get a router generated 'smart setup' page. If you do then you need to log in to the BT home hub and under Advanced Settings (Broadband tab i think), turn this off. Reboot Xbox and see if that fixes.

Ultimately I resorted to a complete wipe of my XBox One, a complete wipe of the router and then left it unplugged all night. Then set it all up again, found out about the Smart Setup thing so switched that off, rebooted (not reset) xbox and router one more time and got it all working again.

Well, at least you know enough to possibly fix it.
If that happened to me, I'd have to try hitting the magic internet box with a hammer a few times, and if that didn't work, I guess I'd go outside or something?

Hey Bongo, probably wont help but ill throw this out there anyways. Have you tried static routing your IP and using a public domain DNS service like google?

I've just tried dirty solo with no issues at all. I don't want that to be the solution :(

Seems like you're having trouble connecting to servers other players are playing in, even though you're not actually in the same system as them. My PS4 works fine, until I try to connect with other players. Issues only started this year but have been going on for months.

Only solution so far has been wired connection to the broadband box, which is downstairs. That's dangerous if I don't get out some tools and run the cable safely through the house. Not an ideal solution at all, and since I've only tried the cable once I don't even know yet if it will be a consistent solution.

How old is your Xbox? Maybe whatever it has for a network card is getting worn out. Or maybe your router is.

There are so many possibilities as to what the problem is. Troubleshooting is stressful [ugh]
