My zoo enclosures

Here is a giant anteater enclosure I have been working on. I'm still struggling with some elements of building but I'm broadly happy with it apart from the fact that the anteaters are unable to enter the indoor viewing area due to the hitbox requirements.

Thanks @mikek21 I appreciate it. I’m still struggling with building but I’m really enjoying landscaping and working more with natural borders like rocks and water and figuring out how I can get it to work with the null barrier.

@markun looks amazing. Your stuff from the zt2 days was always amazing and realistic as well. I remember you were struggling with the game a lot in the beginning I’m glad you stuck with it.

The aardvarks seem quite warm and comfortable in their shelter on a rainy day! Nice job Markum. They do look a little lonely without any quests, but I'm sure like zoos everywhere, your zoo is closed because of the pandemic!

Thanks! Yes that's exactly the case, unfortunately closed until further notice...

I really like the climbing frame you've made for the gorillas, very on-brand for a zoo. Are you building in the taiga biome, by the way?

Thank you but the climbing frame is a blueprint I downloaded. I can’t check who made it now but it’s based on the new Sydney Zoo climbing structures.

The new zoo is on the taiga biome. I really don’t like the grass colours though so it’s mostly dirt.

I've been working on a Japanese zoo. I'm taking a break from it to work on something else but I thought I'd share some pictures.

Matsukawa City Zoo is a municipally owned zoo on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido. Hokkaido experiences very cold winters with lots of snow so the zoo specialises in cold climate animals and ensures that those from warmer climates have indoor areas where visitors can see them all year round. The zoo is situated in a large park on the edge of the city and is surrounded by mountains and woodland.

I still find doing buildings challenging. The zoo is really a way for me to practice putting a full park together and seeing what works.

There isn’t as much grass as I’d like to use but it’s on the tundra map and I really dislike the colour of the grass so I haven’t used much. I really like snowy zoos so that’s why I chose tundra. I also hope to do an autumnal foliage version.

It is based on real Japanese zoos which aren’t always perfect in terms of animal welfare but many of them are changing and I hope the mixture of traditional zoo buildings and newer style enclosures reflects that.

I’m planning on doing a series of Japanese zoos. It was originally due to tie in to the Tokyo Olympics - at the speed I build things it still might do that.

One thing about Japan is that they have lots of rarities so it gives me maximum flexibility in building realistic zoos with species from all over the world from pandas to pronghorns.

Oh I like this idea. Looking forward to seeing more! Makes me wish we had some more Japanese animals now, too, though; even just the Japanese raccoon dog and the Japanese serow would be enough (the red-crowned crane as well would make it perfect).

I'd also really like the sika deer as that's a real staple of Japanese zoos, even more than the serow although that is definitely uniquely Japanese.

Here is the Japan wishlist I made
