Mysterious Galnet article - "Weird science in the old worlds".

So I was in the Lave sector the other day when I noticed an odd Galnet article...

Is this just some generic procedural story thing, or is it unique? Has anyone seen similar stories in other sectors?

If not, I'm kind of wondering whether it's foreshadowing for powerplay...

It's forshadowing... something. Mentioning the Old Worlds certainly isn't random.

Maybe something alien from the far abyss, or those engineers in Riedquat have been listening to some toothy-serpent of an AI.

I assumed the "Old Worlds" was just referring to Lave and its neighbors, which could be procedural - the game could have a list of nicknames for different areas which it pulls from when generating articles. I've seen at least one story which glitched and said "[IMPERIAL HEIR]" (or something to that effect) instead of the name of a character, which could be a sign that there is some procedural stuff going on here. At the least it implies that stories are generated from templates, which is why I wondered if anyone had seen this story in a different area, or at a different time; anything that might suggest it's nothing special.

Because it seems cool, and I want my excitement to be justified :p

I haven't heard them referred to the 'Old Worlds' before in-game (I think it was a Frontier nickname) until this one went up.

I've seen the procedurally generated news articles from local stations and this seems quite different. (I think the global articles are all manually injected, and this one looks like it's global as I saw it in Empire space).

I think it's pretty obvious where they're going with this - they've been talking about procedurally-generated weapons for a little while now. This is the setup for that, which means it's reasonably likely that we're going to start seeing some pretty cool weapons in 1.3...

Wait, I thought every Galnet News were manually redacted by FD ?

I did find some Prototype Tech two weeks ago, a thousand light years away from civilisation...
It was marked stolen and I sold it on the black market.

They could be - it's entirely possible that they wrote the skeleton to some of the stories early on, before they had specific character names, and someone forgot to update that one particular bit before publishing.

I hadn't heard about this, but I just did a bit of a search and it sounds like you could be right... Fingers crossed, anyway.
