Powerplay is 100% player driven, so unless the leaders are used in Galnet (which would be a miracle in itself) I can't see the connection.
I've got to admit, I didn't see that coming. I really expected GalNet to be in hibernation until Odyssey. This news is a most welcome and exciting surprise for me. I'd also like to add that the concept sounds very promising indeed and I am excited to see where Elite lore is going in the next months/years.

If they replaced Powerplay/updated it to something with more sensible mechanics I think everyone would be more than delighted. I personally wouldn't be surprised though if this didn't refer to the Superpowers & some form of improved interstellar initiatives. I could be wrong though.

I asked about whether some locked sectors would be opening up, just before the spammy xeno peeps got muted, so I guess that got lost in the storm of whiny brats getting - not ignored, exactly (they already had their answer, but didn't like it) - but getting shut down before the stream was hijackedI did ask if there would be anything for macOS commanders and didn't get an answer. I guess they must have just missed it
I think CMDR Kai Zen and all the others involved with Turning the Wheel (and all CMDRs who have posted regarding the lack of GalNet in the past) deserve a round of applause. Looks like fdev listened and actually did something. Looking forward to see what happens over the next 18-24 months.
