Newcomer / Intro Nav point aggression

So bounty hunting in nav points seems to be easy enough.. However after a while in the nav point i see ships starting to be red on the radar without any reason (they have no bounty even if i use warrant scanner)

Also at some point a couple of sidewinders or an eagle come to the navpoint and while they have no bounty on them they start shooting me and become wanted..

Any idea whats the reasoning behind this? Am i annoying the local bounty hunters or something? :S

No, but you may be picking on wanted guys from a particular faction and their friends and family may be taking exception to this, check in your right hand panel and see who you are losing rep with (A little red down arrow beside the faction name)

Simple reason because you show aggression towards that faction by killing there friends.

Be careful when doing this because you can have the "police" attack you because you show aggression toward the ruling faction.
So best is to check the current faction and attack everyone else with wanted then you can spot easy if they belong to the ruling faction or not.

And for the sidewinders that attack you mosly those are escorts of something important like war plans or person.

Ok its making more sense now..

So if i want to improve my standings with empire i.e, i should only kill wanted ships that are part of a "pirate" faction?

At present you don't gain rep with the faction that listed the bounty, you only lose rep with the faction you killed a member of. I mix bounty hunting with a little trading and the odd mission to counteract this and get my rep up. I am pretty sure this will change though as pure bounty hunters are going to be unpopular with everyone eventually.

Actually that ties in nicely with both the fantasy/scifi take on bounty hunters and, to some extent, the traditional take on them

Also, don't worry too much about the red ships - they won't always attack you, and as others have said, they're only red because you've shot down members of their faction. The worst thing you can do (and it's completely understandable why you would!) is panic and start shooting at anything red. Do that and you're almost certainly going to hit a Clean pilot and get the police after you.
