Naval rank progression after chief petty officer

I'm at Lt. Commander, but come to think of it I've not received any new promotion mission from the Feds for a week or so. Perhaps there is some sort of obscure trigger. Like you got to be friendly or allied with X amount of Fed systems and/or have Y amount of combat kills fighting for the Feds or something to that effect.

I don't think you have to visit the permit systems to get any further. I've just been to two, Sol for sightseeing and PLX 695 since it sounded like in the description of the system they had good access to advanced ship modules there. They didn't by the way. Though, I could be wrong. Perhaps I should try and go visit all the others. Can't hurt right?!

My federal progression stopped at Vega.

Plx 695 I think has a drop ship for sale, maybe reason for the permit there when hit the rank that allows to buy it.
I more or less progressed to post commander from sol , not seen a mission since

Whether this is it or not I don't know for sure since I'm not there yet. Seems plausible tho.

Well the next mission came up to get viscount. No rhyme or reason that I can see. Old, clueless, and no teefers. The end is nigh.

Mines have dried up to for Feds. Stuck at warrant officer - allied. I am starting to think they might be combat rank based, or tied to it in some way.

Stuck at lieutenant

Have not seen any available fed missions, but the weird part is i see Unobtainable Federal invitation for Vega, which i supposedly already have , along with sol, beta hydri, plx 695 , exbeur , ross 128. i did nothing i know of to get any of them.

stuck at chief petty officer, allied to all minor factions it seems. Can't find a minor faction I am neutral to. SO there goes that theory of levelling up other minor factions. I also was in beta and got all the permits now, what about you guys and permits? I feel it has to do with permit. I am going to go the syste, plx 695 even though it doesnt give you anything anymore, and see if that solves its quirk.

It has nothing to do with reputation gain. I got rank progression from minor factions I was neutral with and from minor factions I was 100% allied with.

From my experience going all the way up the Empire's ladder, the system is the same as FFE - you have to do missions, lots and lots and lots of missions. Trading and bounty hunting don't work.

Each rank seems to require more than the rank before. I was at 100 or so missions per rank by the end.

You need to keep doing missions until u get the next naval progression opportunity. Just run from system to system and do as many missions u can. It might take 2-4 hours of running missions for minor factions until u unlock the next naval progression, it's a grind. My Federation rank is Post commander.
