Navigation question

I have a dumb navigation question.
I'm plotting a course of about 1k LY using the 'quickest route' option, about 21 jumps. Halfway though the route however the lines turn dotted indicating that my tank is empty short of my destination by half.
If I switch route to 'economical' ( using scoopable stars filter) now have a route to my destination with no problem. Unfortunately the number of jumps has multiplied exponentially.
So I had an idea; use the 'quickest route' option but scooping every star along that route, always leaving with a full tank. At about the time I reach the dotted line/ halfway point on my 'fastest route' I now have a full tank of gas to get me the rest of the way, using the 'fastest route' Will this work ?

Yes. As long as you have enough scoopable stars, along the way.

See the pretty one's advice above, to find them.

You can scoop each (scoopable) star as you travel around it to reach the next destination. That tops up the tank a little and effectively moves the dotted line on to the next star, then the next star, and so on. It's probably the quickest way to travel in that you don't have to stop to scoop until the tank is looking empty (I don't like it less than half full on a long exploration journey).

where you see the fuel star / start of the dotted line, that's with the assumption you do NOT scoop any stars, but if you do you'll be ok, remember KGBFOAM and filter by star class accordingly, (dodgy Russian foaming at the mouth)

While plotting the route you should have an icon on the map that says "Refuel Star" or something like that;. This is the last star on you way where you can scoop the fuel but...
Happened to me few times where I couldn't make the last jump because ship wouldn't let me do it saying I have not enough fuel.
Vasco Sapien listed scoopable stars so it's a good idea to check from time to time what's around and refuel.

I have quite high rating fuel scoop fitted on my AspX so refuelling after each jump takes only sew seconds, that way I don't have to worry too much.

The route plotter assumes you do not have a fuel scoop and or do not scoop... So fit a fuel scoop and plot the fastest route, just make sure you scoop whenever you can and if you get down to 1/4 of a tank and your next star is not scoopable (not one of these classes) - (FOGKBAM) then look for one to top up with before moving on.
