Navy Progression - Are you being serious?

Quite frankly I think it should have took weeks to months to gain rank of Baron for the Empire.

It took me a couple of days, makes me think that part of the game is only designed for casual gamers.

Either they need to bust us down a few ranks with some lore, add a few more or add a second layer to this that provides more of a challenge to the game (and better sets of missions)

This "RANKING" system makes me psycho... i had the chance to make my first naval progression rank mission. Now iam rekrut on the federation side. But what now? How do i get the next rank up mission?

I think they are on a timer. Ive notice it take 3-4 days between missions ranks pops up.
It would be good if we got an explanation from some of the dev regarding how faction ranks and missions are tied together and if there is any plan to improve this, in my point of view, flawed and pointless system.

OK - so I made it to Baron in the Empire. So I go back to do some outfitting in a Federation Station and I get an assassination mission to kill some General. I find him and dispatch him and I'm now a Lt. Cmdr. Only problem, even though he fired first, I'm tagged as wanted with a 6200 cr fine.

Fine. I'll just go pay it. So I go out to a Federation outpost, but the fine won't show and I can't pay the bounty off. So I go back and get into the station where I got the mission, land and go to contacts. Same thing. Can't pay it off.

Federation? meh ... great place to work, if you want to be a career criminal I guess. never happened doing the Empire assassination missions.

Do people these days really do no reading before buying a game? A lot of stuff in this gamr is simply placeholders for future content.

Its quite well known.

Agree or disagree with FDs decision to go this route, but it is this way so silly to complain about it when a little research would have told you.

I haven't gotten a rank promotion mission from the Federation since FD released the update that forced system permits to be unlocked upon reaching certain ranks. Being able to play around in Sol finally has diverted my attention temporarily, but I'm ready to rank up again. I suppose I'll wait a little while longer, a couple of days, before ticketing it.

And there's nothing silly about valid complaints and criticisms. The promotion system for navy ranks is absurd, even as place holders. Random missions of inconsistent (rather than gradually increasing) difficulty was a bad idea. I love Elite, but it failed in rank promotion.

Baron: Take 3 tonnes of grain to another port in the same system you're currently in. You've got 3 hours to do the job.

What? Really? Seriously?
...

Well, at Lord rank you don't have the security rating to know what they hid within the 3 tons of grain you're asked to carry. Furthermore, that isn't the point of the mission, the real mission is a test of your character. Do you chuck the mission because you think being an errand boy is beneath you? Or do take the mission and complete it in record time because it's...

for the Empire!

Definitely NOT on a timer. I have had one or two mission per day pop up for three days in a row. Imperial AND Federal. I don't know if it is the type of other missions I am running, or the area I happen to be in, but they have been coming fast and furious for me.

Count yourself lucky, I think the missions have all but dried up. I've left the federation and now trying imperial hoping to find some (which I didn't want to do)

If it's in your vicinity, Gelong (Roe Orbital iirc) has nothing but rep gain and rank missions (everything you need is within two jumps). I'm not sure if stations are designed to be rep/rank stations, but this one continually fills with these missions. Got to Knight in one day's worth.

I'm not sure if missions spawn differently for individuals , but if you get stuck it might be worth a try.....

1: Yeah, getting ranks is too easy.
2: The criminal missions are, if you look at the source, from the black ops division. So that at least makes sense.

Anyone else think that those of us lucky enough to buy the game early and have progressed to a reasonably high rank like Baron will end up with a huge advantage? Seems that the current progression thing is nothing more than a quick placeholder for a far more sophisticated and difficult system...

What he said... at least I hope so!

Truly new missions, or duplicates of the earlier ones? Duplicates won't count for ranking up.

Each rank has a particular type of mission: smuggling, fetch, courier, assassinate, combat, and then the cycle repeats.

So, for example, you might find 5 smuggling missions (even after you turn one in, for a while they keep spawning), but those are all for one rank and doing more than one won't help.

I don't feel 'lucky' about it. In fact, I would love to see my military rank reseted, when FD finally implements propper ranking missions. (And no, I have no intention to delete my current profile to achive this.)

Sure, you can certainly look at it that way. I however, think I deserve some love! I'm primarily a bounty hunter and have deliberately avoided every exploit and obviously unbalanced gameplay aspect since Beta. Sadly that means that despite the numerous hours I've put in I'm still stuck with a maxed out Viper, a partially upgraded Cobra and about a million credits... So far off the Imperial Clipper I so desperately desire! Trading, I'm afraid, simply isn't for me... So yeah, happy to be made into a part of the Imperial Aristocracy! Perhaps the devs might consider giving me back my courier from Frontier? ;D
