Need a bit of help with ship controls

I recently bought elite Dangerous for PC since the console versions have been borked and I am using a controller on this version as well. I have set most of the controls to how I like them, but the one thing I cannot figure out for the life of me is something from the console versions that was a lifesaver. I am not good with remembering the terms so excuse my ignorance but it is the control of moving the ship around directly in any direction on a flat plan. It makes landing much easier, for example. In the console version this was tied to the right stick in alternate flight controls if I remember right but that isn't the default here. Instead it is the awkward slight turning effect and that is just not effective for me.

Anyone know the setting I am talking about and what I should change?

I think what you're looking for is under "landing overrides". So when the landing gear is down, you want to make the stick thrust left and right instead of slowly turning (yaw) left and right.

Yes! Thank you! Couldn't figure out for whatever reason and this is exactly what I was looking for.

for all ye six dof novs the word is strafe not to be confused with the wifey word
whilst usually used to describe air craft attacking a ground target to pilots it means to move laterally whilst vector keeping
and if its yaw you want try fly dangerous on steam free for a bit of fun you wont be disappointed yaw wise

In the console version this was tied to the right stick in alternate flight controls if I remember right but that isn't the default here

My defaults do have the 'alternate flight controls' toggle to clicking the left stick and does switch the right stick between yaw and lateral thrusters by default

These bindings are in an 'alternate flight controls' section in the ship controls

I mapped the 'left', 'right', 'up','down', 'forward', 'reverse' to buttons on my controller for the specific task of making landing easier. These days, I hardly ever use them as I find the whole process of docking and taking off very tedious. Buy the advanced docking computer and make your game play more enjoyable.
