Hardware & Technical Need advice - nvidia 3D stereo (aka 3D Vision)

And later I will check out the mod in a station and on a planet.

Groan! Not much better with the mod.
In the station the lights were floating in front of where they should be.

Ah well. I like the monitor anyway with its high refresh rate.

Hmm I never noticed that. Things like that would be very obvious to me (ie "floating" incorrectly). Any specific set(s) of lights? Or any specific kind/type of station(s)?

I was/am in Fong farming Hi Res's , the big station. The sun from the station, was bracketed by black spheres as well.

Hmm, my other car is making computer graphics. Give me some time and I'll post a couple of images for you to look at.

Well I dunno if you could see this in 3D, but I tried a capture with Shadowplay with one of my 3D session.

Video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQz4JjAuCTA

In it, I don't see lights floating incorrectly in stations. However I did notice that if the star I'm at shone down into my cockpit, the shadows the struts made on my dashboard looked "off".

Yes I was able to watch the video after downloading it.
I don't see m/any problems with it. It looks good and playable.
I must have a look at my drivers and settings. I will get back to you. Thanks for your time and effort.
I had given up on 3D Vision.

I will get back to you.

What a carry on. <groan>

The Helix mod files had disappeared from the Elite directory. After reinstalling them Shadowplay had to be reinstalled.
But finally I managed to upload it to Youtube. The file is not small. I downloaded it from Youtube using "YouTube Converter & Downloader".
Here is the link.

There are problems with the 3D Vision settings and I have to adjust them. When using the debug camera the settings change. :(

Ah I see what you mean by the lights not where they are supposed to be. Yes I see it in your video. But in mine they are all fine. When in the debug cam nothing looked funny or weird too.

I also noticed you didn't put much depth into the 3D... everything's kinda flat-ish but there's still some depth. One thing I did notice, is that your cockpit struts looked to be skewed to the left... I don't own an FDL, is it normal in 2D?

I don't know how to advise you, except that I did the initial adjustments using the Helix Mod (] key and then ; and ' keys). When I got those settings to where I roughly wanted them to be, I went with nvidia's hotkeys, ie CTRL-F3/F4 etc etc to get them to how it looked like in my video.

Yes the FDL is like that and somewhat annoying it is too. The RH strut gets in the way all the time.

I did not use the Helix Mod's setup as I have most of my keys bound so I can use Voice Attack. Not that I use VA as I have the wrong sort of Scottish accent (think lift video ;)).
I think I will back up my bindings change them and try setting it up using Helix first.

Hahah yeah I usually have to "translate" Scottish if someone spoke it to me, and they'd have to speak it slower than normal. Anyway good luck on your bindings!

I have a 144 Hz screen, GTX 980, 4.4 GHz chip, and 3D Red Cyan glasses

Anyone got a step by step setup guide :D thanks in advance

But I've lived in England for 30 years and never have problems being understood. My mother was English and brought me up to speak proper. Then again computers listen to speech differently from people.
I deleted the bindings the mod uses and it is worse.
I'm giving up for the day before I get eye strain. Jings, crivens, help ma boab . ;)
Thanks for the help.

1. Launch ED
2. Go to OPTIONS, go to Graphics/Display
3. Look for "3D" option, change it from OFF to ANAGLYPH
4. Mess with Stereo Separation ("Depth" - how deep you want the monitor to be) and Focal Point ("Convergence" - how near/far you want stuff to float to you. Note that this also allows stuff to pop OUT of the monitor nearer to you even!) as desired for personal comfort.
5. Profit!

LOL ok. Honestly I'm not even a native English speaker - my mother tongue is Chinese. But I do English much better than Chinese. Chinese is damn hard - every character has a different pronunciation, and if you don't recognise the character, you can't "wing it" by trying to pronounce it phonetically.

Anyway - my advice is not to mess with the bindings in Helix Mod (if at all possible). Use their keys by default and rebind your own stuff for the game. Once you get the Helix Mod settings about right, you can then use nvidia ones to fine-tune.

And you don't mention intonation which can change the meaning. So I've been told by a Chinese friend who asked for dog poo in a butchers. IIRC.

I have had a quick look and there is nothing obvious so I will leave it alone. I'll drop a note on the website.

I managed to do some freecam flythroughs in 3D.

Video -> https://youtu.be/mvLy3paAfvc

As you can see, no funny floaty-lights or anything... everything looks ok. I even left the UI on screen.

Oh yes I did this after the huge patch today.

That looks good. Thanks
I think I'll do a clean install. I note on my 3D view that it looks like Bloom is on and I have disabled it in the controls. I did try SweetFX a while ago and there may be something from that installation that is interfering.

The floating lights are still there and the rings around ringed planets are gone. Ah! well. Maybe Sometime later. <sigh>

I'm stumped. No idea why you're getting it and I'm not. I checked my ED options, and I was surprised to see BLOOM is enabled. Whether disabled or enabled made no difference to 3D. Ringed planets also look fine to me, as well as dropping into the rings... all the rocks look ok, have depth and I could tell how far away they were to my ship...

I've got no idea either but don't waste any more brain cells on it. ;) I won't for a while.
I get enough information from the flat screen and I'm used to it. So no worries. It just annoys me that I bought a 3D Vision ready screen out of ignorance when I could have bought a 4K one. It was the first PC I've bought in about 20 years as I had been using a laptop for a long time. Anyway I'm a snowflake and the glasses are irritating after about an hour or so of wearing them and I play Elite for much longer at a stretch.
