Need advice on choosing a ship

Hey everyone,
So I decided i need a decent combat ship.
I have unlocked most of the engineers and right now am grinding for materials. I was thinking to fully engineer a Vulture first and next get an FDL or a Chieftain or Python. But as Im grinding right now Im starting to wonder If engineering a Vulture is even worth the time? I can get credits for a medium ship + best modules pretty fast. What would you guys do? Vulture or no Vulture?
Thanks in advance to everyone responding.

All depends what sort of combat pilot you want to be eg fighter pilot, gunship, battleship etc.
Also depends if you want the ship to do other things apart from combat.
And depend on where your fav type of combat is. Eg nav, res, haz res,cz, thargoids.
You have to take all these things into consideration.
Also if its pve or pvp.

When i did pure combat i liked the vulture it had its downfalls but that was before engineers. Now you could make a beast vulture.
I tried a fdl but didn't like it. Wasnt suited to my style of flying.
Haven't tried a chieftain yet. Or a conda, vette or cutter.
For the longest time my most fav ship is the python. Not because its great at combat or anything but because I can use it for almost anything. No need for constant ship switching. Just switch out which ever modules you need at the time if you want to dedicate it. Or just have it set up to do a bit of everything.

It comes down to personal choice and what you like to fly and if its suited to the way you fly. For example for me the python is a better choice than a fdl purely because the fdl isnt suited to the way i fly and the way i like to combat fight. And i love flying it and its look.

Ferdie. It can out maneuver the big three and it has a huge hardpoint. so it can actually deal damage. Vulture is okay, I guess, although the powerplant is a bit weak.

Thats one of the things that annoy me. The big 3 shouldn't be as maneuverable as they are. There was a time that the conda couldn't out maneuver smaller ships and that felt real. These days the conda maneuvers alot better and for some reason sometimes when npcs fly them they out maneuver even the best ships.

If the choice is those three, it's a total no-brainer, the python. Sorry haven't read the thread, don't mean to insult any already expressed opinions. I LOVE my Chieftain, but I would sell it before the python, due to sheer usefulness.

Much appreciated re: the Python; I've been mulling this over as well and this closes the case for me - off to buy a Python I go! I've been trying to make do with a Cobra MKIV (& love it thoroughly) but I've reached a wall with it. I like the feeling of working my way up/through ship classes, so I didn't know if the Chieftain would be too much of a leap. I've read also that the Python can take large transport loads to outposts as well, which will also fill a gap for missioning.
