Need advice on frag cannons

I have two wing-mates running pac-cutters and pac-conda... pure devastation (huge slot is for OC cannon or for PA, or even a gimbal MC).
I run a similar build on mine and it just wrecks the place in a CZ. There's lovely convergence on those large hardpoints.

As another alternative that I've seen suggested in the past that might be worth considering is high capacity with screening shell. Up to you though, I only suggest it as a possible alternative to what others have said.

As for my Krait, it's Pacifiers - OC, with corrosive and 2 screening shell, with long range hammers (normal rails are fine and some would say better) on the mediums at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about Pacifiers though. If you want to get them they do give a bit more range, but really gimballed frags are fine as you're usually so close that chaff isn't doing that much to help (certainly on big ships).

Double Shots for fun. Screening Shell and Corrosive for extra fun. There's a reason why my Mamba (which I was close to selling) is now called The Purge.

Yeah, I know about Overcharged, I simply have more fun with Double Shots.

Will go for the Imperial hammers next week, still waiting on the drunk missiles (3 days to go) cause those are fun to watch - but
hammers will be double shoot no way around

Gimballed OC Frags on my Krait with rail in the medium, it’s a great combo. I find the pitch of the Krait means the gimballed frags help more than using pacifiers, add the crazy boost and lack of weapons draw on the capacitor and you’re never too far from your target.

I’ve got two pacifiers on my Chieftain with a medium gimballed Frag with drag effect and three small rail guns in the C1 slots - the agility of the Chieftain really helps to get the fixed weapons on target, which is great as I need all the help I can get with fixed weapons.

'Lo all!

I would like to thank you guys for the advice - I've just unlocked Zachariah but I've elected NOT to use him yet - I want to see if this fits my style first.
I've fitted Xeno's Paradox with 3C gimballed Frags and 2B rails on the cheek mounts.

Following a cruise of about 10 minutes while I worked on configuring my modules to accept the weapons without removing any of her defences (it was a bit challenging) I steered Xeno's nose to a Hi-Rez for a little testing and target practice.

Like...WOW. It's not exactly how I like to fight - I was surprised to see the frags are semi-auto only, though it makes sense and not at all bothersome. Though my joystick ain't the most accurate (it's a little cheapie) I was able to peg fighters from a considerable distance with the rails and quickly learned the basics of fighting with frags - not only close, but if possible right into the target's belly, for max effect.
I'll spend a few dozens of hours practicing with them, with both gimballed and fixed frags to see which I prefer - though at this moment I'm likely sticking with the gimbals; with that kind of DPS I'm willing to accept the minimal reduction. (That said, as a primarily muiltigun user, chaff is the bane of my existence. Not a big problem; I just track the target until it stops and go back to pounding him - but if I choose to go with fixed frags, it won't matter.) I'll also look into a variety of med. weapons as well - plasmas, mainly.

Basically, I'm having a WHALE of a good time trying this new style out and will study frag-fighting in detail. Once I'm comfortable, THEN I'll go to Zachariah.

Cheers! And THANK YOU for your excellent advice! :D

I got nothing useful to add except 3x gimballed Double Shot Screening Shell Frags
And a pair of PAs is how I roll on my Krait.
I’ve got a set of overcharged frags, in storage and I try them once in a while, but I keep coming back to this loadout.

That's what i was going to add. Worth noting the (standard) damage vs shields of those frags is comparable to Class 3 guardian shard cannons. Obv the hull damage is superior, but if you can fit some alternate " big armour damage" you could have a decent setup for less material cost.

Guardian shard cannons are really great against shields, but their rate of fire is pants compared with frags.

OP,
I wouldn't bother o engineer that ship as when you have engineered it half way you will still have half way to go. When you have engineered it half way from there to complete it you will still need to go half way through that remaining half, and when.....

Oh yeah, but they still keep up relatively close in the DPS stakes.

Surprisingly, all other factors equal, they outdo a G5 overcharged beam laser

Generally, the circumstances won't be equal, given you need to be close range for shards, and you generally won't get all, err, shards, on target. But yeah... other things I prefer about shards over frags is their bright blue shots make assessing your fall of shot much easier... i struggle to see where frags land. And besides the initial guardian mat outlay, there's no ongoing mat costs to get them.
